    Choke Cable Empty Choke Cable

Post by ScottyJones Mon Sep 12, 2011 9:15 pm

My choke cable is frozen in place and Im getting sick of hard stars in the morning. Im planning on removing the entire housing it to see if I can free it up at all. Just curious, what is the proper way to remove the cable where it connects to the knob on the front of the doghouse?
    Thanks!

There is a nut under the doghouse then the whole knob assembly pulls out into the cab,,,,,,you can buy new cables,,,,,,

I had a feeling it'd be easy, just wanted to make sure. Do you have a source for the new cables?

Easy might not be included in the removal,,,,,that nut is way up in there in front of the radiator,,,,,you want a universal choke cable,,,,,every parts store should have one,,,,,,

    Yes, it's very easy.

I purchased a replacement choke cable at a run of the mill auto parts chain store. I was careful to get the longer one (measure the distance of your old cable before getting a new one, is a good idea).

As a precaution I greased the new choke cable (pull out wire, wipe with grease, re-insert into coil sheath) before installation. It takes about three 90 degree turns on its way to the carb, so minimizing friction helps.

But of course do not lube the carb choke linkage.

Thanks. I picked one up from napa and was able to install it fairly easily. A little crawlin around, but nothing major. Good call on the lube, I noticed mine was sticking a bit after the install, so I did the same.

Similar question concerning automatic transmission cable that runs down the underside of van. Mine was laying on exhaust and melted plastic sleeve which mechanic said has surely allowed water into the cable and would make linkage not work smoothly.

Is this a basic autoparts replacement, all as good as the next?
