13" tires for 61 econoline Empty 13" tires for 61 econoline

    Post by 61econo Sun Jun 29, 2014 10:24 pm

does anybody know if this size 155/80/13 would fit on the 1961 econo 13" rim?
I'm looking for tires but want to get the thin white walls. Does anybody have experience with this?
    would these work? http://www.performanceplustire.com/products/productID/8656/tireDataID/13392

    thanks for any insight

That tire would give you a wheel diameter of 22.8" and a width of ~6.1". And if you look at the specs, they list that tire as a black wall tire, but the rest of the line as white wall. Could be a typo.

I believe stock was a little wider like 165/80 which is 6.5" wide and 23.4" tall. I think you'd be happier with the 175/80 R13's of the same tire line, they would give you an approx. tire width of ~6.9" and 24" diameter and would fit the van fine.

I was asking, recently, what the stock 13" diameter tire would have been.. Good info. My 185/70s are 23.2, and still look really small.

I'm not sure on the stock diameter, but I've read that the width was 6.5" tire, there's only so many ways to get there on a 13" rim. I assume the stock rim size is 13" x 5.5"?

I have an original spare at home. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. I will measure and report back.

I called a les schwab tire dealer and they said they can only get
185/70R13 or 175/70R13. Anything else would be a trailer tire.
Any thoughts/experience with the "70" height? Does it make the
    Tire look too small?

I have 185/70s.  They aren't short looking as a tire, maybe just to scale with the van the 13's look small over all.

other than track tires, 185s are the widest 13" tire that I could find..but then, the 185s are about as wide a tire as you would want on a stock width steelie.  They are nice and square.  Perfect really.

Thanks for all of the great info. I ordered some 175/80R13 white walls for $58 each with free shipping.
I'll post pics after I get them mounted and installed.

FCC do you have a pic of your van from the side? I'd love to see what your tires and rims look like. Looks like you have beauty rings also. That is one nice looking van!

Seth G- thanks for all of the technical info. really helped me in making my decision.

Finally got the tires mounted and I really like the way it looks with the 13"'s.
Now I just have to get rid of those ugly mirrors...

--those are sahweet.  I know what I'm buying when the day comes!..  provided we still have the 13's on it. What beauty rings are you using?

I used a app on my phone, simply called "speedometer", and my van reads 10 mph fast at "55".  I was actually going 45 with the 185/70/13s.  so that also gives me a steeper net final drive ratio than the 4:1 diff would naturally.  It probably nets me a 4.10 or worse...

Actually I don't have any beauty rims on there.
I'm contemplating it but haven't got there yet with all of the other fish to fry.
I think the speedo is accurate now but have yet to check.
