    Hello,

My name is Brent and I'm thinking seriously about buying a 1963 Ford Panel Van. It seems like a great deal since it appears in really good shape, but what do you think of the price?

It's got a 170 ci 6 cylinder and no rust and almost all original paint. The Price is about 9K and because there is some minor body work, I was think that might be a little high.

    Any input appreciated.

9 does sound high but you need to post more pictures of the entire van to get a better idea..

    Has the engine been rebuilt?

Is the paint good all around?

    Rusty underneath?

    Rusty floors? Check under mats.

The tires look good. Are they new?

Does it have the small rear axle or large rear axle?

Any signs of Bondo or other body repairs? Crawl under the back and look at the rear body corners from underneath.

Is the inside painted as nice as the outside.

Does it drive well? Is there play in the steering wheel?

Jack up front axle on one side. Grab tire with one hand on top of tire and one on the bottom. Try to rock it by pulling top towards you and then away from you. Check the other front tire. If it rocks at all, then the king pins need to be replaced.

Has the gas tank been flushed? or the tank replaced? 50 years of trash could be in there.

Check all the switches, especially the headlight switch to see if they work properly and work every time.

Does the heater blow out hot air?

Have the rubber gaskets around the doors and around the windows been replaced? Run it through a carwash to check.

If everything is like it was in 1964, it might be worth 9K.

After reading these post you are in good hands with the ford gang, i'd like to add look in the back
around where the leaf springs bolt up. and if you are not going to look at it first see if someone maybe here can go to look at it even if it is for a fee ,  I'm a dodge guy  but  i think that price  should reflect a van with new rubber molding , and gone thru, also look at and in the rad . I'll find the post and add it to this one.

I got a few more pictures and the back doors have small dents around the bottom, but other than that there's not much else wrong. Just minor body work needed. The listing that dix wrote with the link is the van. The additional pictures show the seats and interior some more.

I've never had an independent inspection done before long distance. Guess I would need to track down a local garage there

for that much you shouldn't need to do much to it. maybe this isn't the one. It easy to fall in love with the first one you see. If you got that kind of cash to spend there are better ones out there

its all about time and money, if you have that kind of loot and don't want project type van that takes time and more money to get sorted out. I paid 3k for my ugly flat black  65 hd 8 door econo, mechanics and underneath were good but needed lower panel rust repair and seats, tires and wheels, im about to 8k now and its not ugly anymore. think im done spending money now for the most part and woundnt have done this but really wanted hd 8 door. so at this point the van your looking at looks good to me and like the fact of original paint. don't like to lowball people but in this case offer the guy like 7 and then go up from there because your in the drivers seat and doubt his phone is ringing of the hook at 9k.

After seeing the pictures I think you could do a lot better for that kind of money. The prices are going up, I look everyday at the e vans as I am looking for another pick up project. For 9 grand you should get a truck in mint condition, new paint over a straight body, very good cab interior, detailed frame,
Very good mechanical condition. Probably a 6cyl, not an 8 at this price.
I would wait and watch the (E for sale section) the guys on this site do a great job updating it daily.
Just my opinion of coarse, I know once you get the early bug it's hard to be patient.
    Good luck

Donn i'm glad you posted your oppion, .Like stated before I don't know the fords like the ford gang. And I agree with everything you are saying, what also needs to be looked at would be the front axle. when these vans/trucks get a tow truck or a flat bed most of the drivers chain them down by the front axle in return the axle ends up BENT, and that will cost about $500.00 in repair cost,

The odometer may say 22,000, but the mileage might really be 122,000.
