Ok, dumb question time.... I just got a 68' 318 without an air cleaner, is this supposed to have an oil bath air cleaner or the plain old paper type??

Either one. The oil bath type was "extra equipment" aka optional. I prefer the paper type myself.

Is the oil bath filter the one that came on it in 68? And does it matter if I put a regular edelbrock paper filter setup on my 318

Nope..doesn't matter. If you're running a 2bbl. carburetor the Edelbrock air cleaner won't fit. 4bbl. is no problem.

Figures.... back to looking for a 2 bbl setup then.... We passed a "junk yard" on the way home that is down by the OH boarder and my son want to go poke around there on Saturday, maybe we can find a stock 2 bbl setup then.

they do make an adapter to keep your 2bl and put an aftermarket chrome 4 bl air cleaner. try your local speed shop

I did not know that. Learn something everyday.
Duane...a 318 air cleaner off of a car or truck should work, but you may have to trim a bit off of the air horn to get it to fit in the dog house.
