    Air Cleaner Empty Air Cleaner

Post by rfergnes Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:52 am

I do not have anything sitting on top of my carb (65 g10) I'm pretty sure this isn't good. Anyone know where can I find an air cleaner that would be as close to stock as possible?

    Thanks.

BTW, is there a certain model of car that I can pilfer parts from if I head to a junk yard? If I cant find a old 65 g10 to get parts from what is the next best option?

I have some stock air cleaner parts I can ship to you, but someone cut off the snorkel so it's only about two inches long now. But like Don says, better than nothing!

Seems to me,,,,,,,,cutting the small 1 inch hole end off of the snorkel back as to let more air into the air cleaner is a GOOD thing,,,,,,,the pick up air cleaner from around the same years should work,,,,,,,you would probably have to trim down the fresh air tube connector on top of the carburetor,,,,,,

The reason the factory put the snorkel was to duct air from the 'cool' side of the engine over to the carb, which is on the 'hot side' of the engine

Good point...keep looking and asking around these forums, some one will have a complete stock air cleaner for you and parts vans are listed from time to time.  A lot of people switch to V8's and have the old air cleaner left over so keep looking, took me a few months until I found one...BTW, the most important reason for one, as well as keeping dirt out of engine, is to prevent fire in case of a back fire!  If you have old oil/gas vapor soaked insulation under the cover and no air cleaner and you backfire, it will burn...I know, it happened to me back in the day with my first '66!

Just a thought but if you find a vintage jeep i think the piece that sits on the carb might fit.Be sure to grab the hose that conects to the filter.it can be cut to length and a cone k/n air filter installed.Iuse that filter on my 55 willys.A 60 chevy with a 6cyl may also fit.
