Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
Yes sir.. attaches to the shoes real nice, waiting for the struts now so I can get them back together. Picked up the king pin set today and it's supposed to be nice this weekend so after autorama on saturday its back to work. The "apprentice" has parts to hang. At least this week I'm in a hard cast and I got it in BLACK so the grease won't show.

Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
SCORE!!! Got The park brake struts today. THANKYOU Jeep for re-using old mopar parts. 1978-89 CJ-5 "brake equalizer bar" from autopartswarehouse.com omix-ada pn# 0321675106 mfr# 16751.06
Of course that was my 1 step forward, now for the 1 step back.. Got the king pins out and guess what... Yeap wrong "new" part someone during the last 40 years swapped out the 2200# axle for a 2500# axle and the locking bolt slot is in a different spot, have to wait another 7-10 days for my parts. At least I can finish the rears..
Time for the dumb question.... The spacers that go in between the spindle and the axle 1 is bigger and has room for the steel washer and slotted bronze washer, the other has room for a steel washer. Wasn't watching which was top and bottom... I ASSUME the bigger bronze and steel goes at the bottom of the axle with the bronze washer against the axle to prevent wear???? Is my GUESS correct????

Finally got the rear brakes put together and back on the ground today As I was rolling around underneath I found that the diff yoke has a broken bolt at one of the u-joint straps. Oh well 1 step forward one step back.

Can't answer you on that king pin question Duane...don't know anything about 'em. Changing king pins is a job I leave for the professionals.
Congrats on finding those brake bars.

Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
The only problem I had with the brake bars was on the right side where I had to bend the tab at the end of the wheel cylinder a little to get better clearance. The king pins weren't that bad, just a lot of heat and beat. I'm going to check the parts book at napa when I pick them up and measure the ones that are on my 67'.

Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
the only reason i haven't done my kingpins yet. i probably got the wrong set and will never get the right ones so i am gonna leave it together till they stop makin short fibre grease. they need about .004 clearance anyway otherwise no grease would get to the flats of the bushings.

Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
JKR... Should be no problem getting them, took about a week the firsty tiime and they credited the wrong one towards the right one so the only thing I'm out is some wait time. The other thing about waiting is, the more worn they are the harder they come out. My left was liveable but the right was sloppy, and the right was twice as hard to get out.

MOOG 8453B is what I have used in the past for kingpins. Not sure what size axle they fit though.

Got the old girl to fire off a gas can today and found that the freeze plug above the starter has a pin hole, But at least it fires and is not locked up. Started on the wiring harness today also.

Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
Found out why they had all the dash wires run ti the battery for power today.... There's no fuse block in the damn thing I was replacing all the wrong size wire and scotch locks with the right color and gage and went to my 67' to look at something and it dawned on me why I had so much room to work.... NO FUSE BLOCK.... Guess I'm off to the junk yard again... Which wire are we adding the inline fuse to so I don't burn up my new harness??? At least the freeze plug went in smooth and the day wasn't a total loss. The only thing good about being in a cast and off work is the A's are getting more attention.

You want to splice in a fusible link to the 10AWG red wire that goes to the BAT terminal on the starter relay.

Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
Well... I guess my nephew is off the hook for not coming over to do the freeze plugs. He called Friday and said one of the guys he works with has a '68 and wondered if I wanted it for $150.00 bucks, you can guess what I told him... So hopefully #3 will be home next weekend... I SWEAR I'm parting this one out....More to follow

Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
No diamond, plenty of rough Another "pop-top" this one is a '67 A-108 "campwagon" with an aluminum roof. Has the seats and cabinets in the back that my '68 doesn't so I have, some I have some templates now. It's another 318/auto so no luck on the adapter and the trans is supposed to be bad. Rusty enough to part out though.

Re: UPDATED 68 sportsman pop-up roof
nice find 67! i had a 68 like that, i sold it to a friend. the top is actually the original roof , and has alumnium channel strips pop rivited to it to seal it whan closed. if your going to part it out i know hes looking for those poles and locking macinisms that raise the roof and hold on place. wish i had a nephew that could sniff out A100s!

Nice find!
Did those Automatics on the A108s have the short tail piece?
Save those pop-out window hardware, shifter, motor brackets, etc.
