Repair panels (sheet metal) Empty Repair panels (sheet metal)

    Post by Randall711 Sun Aug 25, 2013 3:40 pm

I have been looking for sheet metal for my van and I can't seem to find the rear patch panel (basically the rear corners) for a super van. I've looked on Mac's and a few others but they all seem to state "excluding super van" do these exist? Do I buy the panel and add to it where needed? Or do I spend time to make it? Any guidance in this matter would be nice.

I used the patch panels on mine in the rear, my rust wasnt that far up from the bottom and the body shop just cut off patch what they needed and welded them on. Good luck on finding a ext length with decent rear corners sence that was one of the prime spots to start rusting out

I just sold the extndo rear quarters but may know of another set will email him and see.  At present finishing the cutting up of the floor of that exndo and another 65 Spring Special from Galpin Ford and their Back up pickup...
On the remains of the xtndo, the front nose with pillars and parking light panels are sold to Austrailia, the front half of the floor board to the nose, and the valance for the spring special are sold.
I have also the remains of another 67 five wndw that I am still piecing out. I have the two panels for anyone who wants to fill in the tail gate like we did on Tims 5 wndw.  The rear part from the center of the rear wheel wells is gone, the roof is gone, but the rest of the floor is perfect for patch panels.
Also, from the spring special I have the two rear corners. They are in good shape down to the lower part that the patch panels are for. I also have spring supports cut out and the back of two cabs, as well as another floor panel from the seam in front of the doghouse up to the nose flange.
Pm if interested in any,, just go my new plasma cutter and it cuts nice......

That looks great man, seeing all these trucks and vans with round tail lights I think I may have to do something about mine, I was tossing around the idea doing 63 galaxy tail lights

Hard to beat the Pontiac lights,,, and remember some blurps about a high quality led setup thats even better. Small tail lights not really good, but when they light up like a sky light they get your attention. The more the amount of the LED's to a unit, the higher the price, but the better they light up. The reason why not so impressed the 1157 replacement LED units..

I agree the last thing you want is to get tagged in the rear right after you finish your project because your lights aren't bright enough.

A cheap way to make the bulb brighter is to paint the tailight bucket gloss white, it will almost double the brightness

What works well is to take some spray glue and line the inside with aluminum foil.... we`ve done it with old motorcycle lights and it that was before led`s. ....

The shape of the bottom of the Supervan corners is more square. Don't waste your time trying to make the aftermarket short ones work. It's more work than it's worth, I've been through it. You might as well just shape the metal yourself unless you are gonna modify the other metal to make it all tie in but that's a lot of work too.

Sounds good! Ill prob end up fabing the corners I need then. Now as far as side panels they are all the same right? I really don't want to have to fab the wheel arch if I don't have to that way it goes a little quicker.
