    Windshield visor. Empty Windshield visor.

Post by Guest Fri Jul 26, 2013 9:40 am

I am in the process of having a visor made for my 63 Van and was curious how many of you are looking. It will be made from metal and hopefully it will turn out nice.
If anyone has some pictures of visors I'd like to see them so we can make a cool one. My friend who will make them said he could do it for around $300. This is a guesstimate at this point but should be pretty close.
Let me know and maybe the price will be lower if we can get him to make a few.
    Thanks Steve

Are you talking about a windshield visor???

When you just said visor, I first thought visor inside the truck (the little padded ones), then I thought door window visors because you said "made out of metal", then thought the type over the windshield on the outside because you said "visor" as in a single one.

I might be interested. I'd obviously want to see the final product before committing but I love the way a visor looks on early vans. Let me know how it turns out.

I'd be interested. But I'd be concerned about shipping.

Shipping shouldn't be to bad, I'll get working on it and put up some pics when done..
My metal guy seems to think it should be pretty simple for him. I believe him cause I've seen his work and I don't know how he does some of the things he does with metal..

Matchstick was making fiberglass visors. I think he has stopped making them though.

That is one of the photos I have printed. I think we are going to come out from the glass a bit farther. I have tried to contact matchstick and never got a reply so I gave up..
I need to get my Van over to the fabricators house so he can get started. Trying to do that this week. I will keep you all posted as we make progress.
One question I had was how to mount it?? Not sure if I want to drill holes all over the van? Maybe nutsert?? Ideas. Thanks Steve

Not as good looking as the 1st one pictured. It looks ok & probably will look better painted but the wrap around one looks a whole lot better to me. I am not knocking it in anyway just giving my opinion so I hope no one gets mad.

yes!  more for structure.  doesnt seem like it would take long to fatigue the metal at the screws/rivets and rip that whole visor off.  that thing is like a sail catching A LOT of air especially at free way speeds.

I agree with the others on this. Needs a little more on the sides. Even if it didn't round down like the first one pictured, maybe even a "break" or bend on the sides to angle it down would suffice. Anxious to see how this evolves.

A series of small egg shaped holes along the top edge or raised areas for wind and add more side wrap on the 2nd pic, not liking the first pic.

here is mine..  I gave $100 for it off Ebay and cut almost 6" out of the middle and modified the edges to fit my Van-up..  I think they need to wrap down on the edges for support and they do need vented. mine vents through about a 4-5" by 1" center vent and the edges are gapped to release air.  hope maybe this helps some...

Cool thanks for the input guys. I was thinking about louvering it or dimple die holes?? I see what you mean about the sides I think I agree about bringing the sides all the way around to the "A" pillar.
It seems pretty solid but I know at highway speed there will be an issue. Soon as I get the van running I will do some speed tests and see how she moves.
