Just kicking ideas around with the window van and wondering if anyone removed their windows and replaced with metal. Not sure we want all the windows. What gauge metal did you or would you use? Thanks

Only do it if you have the skills to do it right, many vans have had this done and the body work wasn't done right. Have you thought about a very dark tint???? That always looks great on a early

I have one that the previous owner welded sheet metal over the windows. The thickness looks the same as the rest of the body, but it was not done well, and the welds were not ground down. It's not straight either. It's now a parts van.

It takes an experienced welder to do this . If I had to do it, I'd tint the windows, or maybe paint them black on the inside.

If you remember the Vega sedan delivery, they just cut metal to replace the glass using the rubber seal instead of welding or stamping a different panel.. Could use fiberglass too, just a thought.

Sounds to me like you would mess up a perfectly good window van, if you weld in metal. If you have to have a panel van why not trade your window van for a panel van. There may be a guy out there looking for a window van....

I'd opt to dark tint before potential damaging the van. Or a kick ass set of curtains for the windows.

I agree, a big negatory on plating them off, Im a cargo/windowless fan myself but Id much rather see you tint them than mess with them, they just too often turn out bad

Use the black paint method, or I recommend some plate aluminum and remove the glass, then install the plate in the rubber. That way later in life you can just pop it back to normal if you change your mind. Smile

I seen a panel van painted one time to look like it was all black with super black tinted windows (that didnt really exist). It was a riot at car shows because there were hand prints all over the side panels of the van from people trying to look thru the metal "windows" LOL!

Tint is cheapest and easiest tho, I agree. Smile

    Painted on windows.

Here is me in 1985 with my Œ1965 painted up to look like a city bus for a homecoming parade.  It's the top left van in my avatar to the right.
