Re: Joe Van's 1966 GMC Handivan
Trying to kill some time before my mirrors and brackets come after a long gotta think about it I eched primed the taillight bezels and painted them Satin black to match all the trim I did not sand them incase I decided to remove the paint down the road.............. I have to admit I was not too impressed the way it looked in the garage but once I pulled it out and stood back a ways I felt better plus all the encouragement I got from the guys at the Car Show Saturday night sealed the deal... ...

That's what sets that Chev off...the red and black. I love that combo. Restoring a 48 Ford F1 as we speak with the same.. red and black. I gotta figure out to post pics Sweet van!

This was my 1941 Willys Coupe I bought it from Al Hoffman (Drag Racer) as a roller chassis and was a 6 year build and fortunally I sold it after all that time and money I invested it ran 10,03 it the 1/4 mile with a 454HO 525 HP Roller Big Block Chevy Motor it is one of the fastes street cars I have ever driven. !!!.Vannin Ken wrote:That's what sets that Chev off...the red and black. I think it looks great ! I'm a fan of painted trim anyway. Had a bike with a butt load of chrome on it. Was a PITA to keep clean. Nice Willys !

Re: Joe Van's 1966 GMC Handivan
IT took about 2 years from pushing it into the garage and being able to drive it out so I worked on it as I drove it sort like I am doing with my Early I got to be good friends with Al and his wife Susie at... AL Hoffman Motor Sports... going back and forth to Eusts FL to his house getting parts when I bought this car he had 11 Willy's Coupes that were for sale and in different stages of the build and mine was #8 it was signed and documented he lived about 50 miles from my house fortunately just before I got it on the road to drive it over to show him he passed away from a massive heart attack at 60 years old what a shame but his memories live on.. ...

Re: Joe Van's 1966 GMC Handivan
I wish I never sold mine either.!!!.The guy that bought it does not live far so I still get to see it once in a while at the bigger shows... Outlaw bodies are the best and straightest you can buy mine was Dennis Taylor and I drove it for 4 years with the gel-coat and almost everyone thought it was painted black.... Dennis Taylor finished all the seams before they gel-coated the body.....IT is a roomer that Dennis Taylor was originally from Outlaw Performance the bodies and the parts were identical............

i paid 5000 for it back then, i'm sure there sky high now, but you get what you pay for, the gel-coat job they do is awesome, theres not much work to do before painting

Re: Joe Van's 1966 GMC Handivan
For a rolling Pro street.. Art Morrison chassis ,wheels tires, sheet medal fab 9in rear and a Dennis Taylor body was $23,500.. .....(add 5k now)...and another 25k to get it on the road.... I sold 2 vans and my 1967 427 Impala fastback.. one of the Vans was my 4x4 Chevy to fund this project...NOW back to the painted tail-light bezels.. ..

Re: Joe Van's 1966 GMC Handivan
Well after watching my wife trying to keep her seat from tiping on left turns and still waiting on parts I desided to cross another thing off the list the right seat is missing the inside track and was just sitting on a peice of wood not bolted down.!!.. I was digging through my stuff and found 2 of theses brackets today,,,,,,,,, After useing a vise a breaker bar and a hammer and a little grinding some left over primer and satin black paint this is how they turned out..... Got some new bolts with nuts and washers and put it together not bad for eyeing everything it all lined up. .. One more thing off the list and now my wife can Enjoy the ride and not have to try to balance herselph around corners.. ...

Re: Joe Van's 1966 GMC Handivan
Well its official I started my interior today got the Insulation on sale $12.00 for a 32ft roll of R13 with paper front instead of the thin plastic.... I learned two things today LOW ITCH INSULATION still itches and 3 1/2 inches is too thick I peeled 1 1/2 off for a good fit this is where I started...

I think that insulation looks good. Pretty sure I will go that route on the 64 as I don't plan on doing so much padded vinyl again.
