Update on a 69 A100
I havent posted in a while so i figured i would add some pictures as well as updates to the old van. I took the van to the track with a 318 and built 727 with a 3500 stall converter and ran a 14.82. Not to bad for a barn door. I added a 6 point roll cage for stabilty and to hold the seat belts. currently i am putting a 440 in the van. I am making the motor mounts as we speak and in a few weeks should be running. I also made a short tail shaft big block chysler transmisson even though it was said it cant be done, it can. The pictures are of a junk 440 being test fit and modified to fit. i will post more pictures as progress is made. enjoy the pictures.

Awesome. Please post how you did the short tailshaft. I plan to put a 383 with a 727 in my '64...some year.

Re: Update on a 69 A100
The short shaft BB 727s were used in some applications. The one I know of was early 70s trucks with the divorced transfer case.
Here's a picture; note that it's the short length, but the mount is under. You can simply swap the tail housing to this trans. To swap a long length trans, you need the output shaft and the housing. As said before, there are changes to these over the years, so know what you are doing before swapping parts...

Re: Update on a 69 A100
I left gas cap on top of the pump went back and it was still there. I rebuild transmissions on the side. I took a small block 727 short tail and pulled the output shaft out and put it in the big block case. I knew they made bb short tail shaft but they are rare to come by. I have several bb and sb 727 so I just swapped and sold the sb long tail shaft to pay for the bb rebuild. Motor mounts for a bb in these vans are tricky. Still under way tho

Please document how and what you did to mount it. I've got a BB and a trans, and one of the vans will probably end up with one!

Re: Update on a 69 A100
well i am going to use the stock 318 rubber motor mount anchor part number A2338. The mounts how ever are complety custom made. I will take pictures and post when i take them back out for paint. For the trans mount i made my own cross member and am using a mount for a 1967 cornet trans mount anchor part number A2272. The dog house hits the valve cover and is going to need some minor modifcation. I will post more pictures as i go.

Re: Update on a 69 A100
Still going on the van. I finally finished building the motor short of a couple things. I got the motor in the van on rubber motor mounts with the transmission. Everything is hooked up but i am waiting on special order push rods due to the roller cam. I am also waiting on a radiator to keep the big block cool. What is the easiest way to post pictures on here? I always seem to have trouble. April 21 is opening day at the track up here and the van is going out there to make a few passes as long as i dont run into problems after i get it all buttoned back up

Re: Update on a 69 A100
I have uploaded pictures into the gallery for everyone to see. The name is Jakes 69 a 100. I am just about finished the big block swap. The motor is in. Everything I did is custom in one way or another. I did not have to cut the floor or the dog house, how ever it is very tight. Headers are off of a belvedere cut apart and re welded. The radiator is a giffin with 2 10inch electric fans, doesn't go above 175 Degrees. Opening day at the track is April 20th and I will be there to see what kind of improvements a big block will make. I built the motor and the transmission with a 3500 b&m torque converter. The motor ran on a dyno 396HP 598 ft lbs of torque. please ask any questions and I will take more pictures of all the modifications made.

Re: Update on a 69 A100
The 440 is in running and complete. took it for a very short drive today. There is no exhaust so you can hear it 6 blocks away. runs and drives good. still have some minor carb tuning to do. it is very tight as you can see through the dog house. you cant see past the valve covers. the dog house has to come off for just about anything other then check the oil. there are more pictures in the gallery under jakes 69 a 100

Re: Update on a 69 A100
I'm not at all surprised about the "no traction" action. My '67 has a 273 V8 and automatic and it burns the weenies when I get on it. I have so much trouble with traction when it snows here that I put a '31 Dodge engine block in the back of the bed for weight. I can't imagine the traction trouble with a 440.

Re: Update on a 69 A100
with the 318 a g force t/a the 318 would not spin them too much. but the 318 was a lot less power and very tired
