scarebird - Scarebird brakes - Page 3 Empty Calipers

    Post by millwright71 Fri Jan 25, 2013 12:49 pm

If you are using the scarebird brackets, they are designed for the standard duty calipers. IIRC there are two different calipers available for the 1500 series trucks, standard, and F44 heavy duty. Just get the standard duty ones.
I bought mine from AutoZone and these also came with the bolt, and sleeve kit that you need Part #C552. I am in no way affiliated with AutoZone by the way, just passing on what I used.

Those should be fine, about what I paid for my lifetime warranty ones without shipping. Pads were DGC368

C553 will be your passenger side,I did have to pay the core charge. The parts all worked really good. I had to file the opening just a tad where the caliper slides into the bracket. It seems like the coating was just a bit too thick there. I mainly did it to make changing the pads easier down the road, and to make sure the caliper would slide easily to adjust for pad wear.

my guess says that bracket is for the pass side. caliper usually hangs from the back side for more clearance of steering linkage. thats how i am desigining mine to work anyway..

They point to the front of the van, with the nuts facing inside. I filed my brackets so the caliper slides into it easier. Hope this helps.

I cut the little brackets off the hoses, I cannot remember exactly how I ran the hoses, just that the driver side one was a little tight at the caliper. It had enough clearance though.

yes i did i have them in and the right side i need to spot weld them in, there a little loose, the left side fit great, i may not need to cut them shorter with running chrome wheels and baby moon caps, that is if the 14'' wheels fit over the calipers, may need to get some other wheels, i'm still waiting on the rotors to arive, tomorrow i'll start on the master cylinder,

If they are loose, but won't spin, I used some loctite bearing retainer compound. It is green in color, and is made to take up spaces like that.
