I remember...........

this thread is not about one thing, just things you remember as a kid that in most case aren't around anymore.

Full Service Gas Stations one of my first jobs was a gas jockey and sad to say when I started self serve was just starting

I started hanging around a gas station around 11 years old and working @ 12 back then gas was 23.9 cents a gal. do you even rember .9 on gas prices.??? bias tires,, stock cars had a claimer division mostly 57 chevys after the race the car could be bought by anyone for $650. 00 if you would not see the car you were not alloud to race @ that track for the remaining year. cigarettes were 25 cents a pack. motor oil in metal cans. man I have a ton of these memories......

another thing I miss is Drive-in eats, we do still have one A&W around here, but have to drive about 30 miles to get there

I miss the old drive in movies. I remember having the little speaker in the pole that you had to hook to your window.

That be like da one I'm talking about. The one in my town had the best pizza around. 10 times better than the pizza joints we have around these days!!!

Back in the good old days $10 would fill your car up with gas & you would get change back.

I remember taking my bike innertube to the local gas station to get repaired,the guy lit the glue to heat up the rubber i guess for better adhesion. I thought that was the coolest thing I ever saw lol

I remember those patches I think the name brand was Camel .

I remember when cokes came in the bottles with a deposit on them. Me & my nephews would walk the roads picking them up out of the ditches & take them down to the little country store & cash them in. We would then go to god fathers or Rudolph's pizza & order a large pizza & a pitcher of coke & even have money left over to play a few games.

Thats when they all had pure cane sugar in them instead of corn syrup. They tasted a lot better back in them days.

Full driveway service isn't dead everywhere.

I was in New Zealand a week or so ago and drove into a BP at Kaitaia in the North Island and a young girl filled my tank for me.

I don't think I've ever had someone fill my tank for me.

I also worked at a full service gas station as a teen.

Our fuel was more expensive than yours. I used to pay 43 cents per imperial gallon in 1969. In 1970 I started my first full time job at $15.00 per 40 hour week, so I could buy around 35 gallons of fuel on a weeks wage. Currently my 19 year old can buy around 75 imperial gallons on a 35 hour weeks wages.

I think the good old times were abit tougher but still great times.

The old oil companys & bulk sellers/are giving each one of us the "BIG ONE!!" Remember when a major oil company never had a Billion dollar profit in any year? Now its measured by the 1/4 years for billions on NET PROFIT.
