new information on Chevy hings pins I've read topics on how to replace with crysler pins. This is not necessary I just went to Napa to order the crysler pins expecting to drill mine out as recommended on VCVC and Vintage-vans with part # 675-5141 and was told they carry the GM pins with brass bushing also Part # 675-5142 $5.49 each set of 12 cost $65.88. get them red hot in a vice and punched them out with no problem. Do them 1 at a time so nothing gets mixed up

gm hinge pins 675-5142
well guys I definitly do not want to stear anyone it the wrong direction. As is, I'm going by what the NAPA rep. told me. I orginally ask for the chryser part # them he said they listed 2 #'s for this particular type of pin set. He said one is a GM part# 675-5142 the other was a Chrsyler 675-5141 he said they looked the same on his page except the chevy was smaller size in diameter then the chrysler and were cheaper by $2. I ask him if they came with brass bushings or the original nylon bushings? He said brass. So I ordered them and I pick them up this Tues. morning. I already have my hinges apart so if they are the wrong ones I will go ahead and order the Chrysler pin. I will know as soon as I see them. Then I'll let you guys know for sure. So I apologize maybe for jumping the gun alittle. I definitly would not do anything intentional. Talk to ya Tues. RV

hinge pins
Yea Donnie was right they were way to big. They were for a chevy P-van not G so definitely go with Donnie's rebuild and use the chrysler pins

Re: gm hinge pins for 1st n 2nd gen
I've done most of the pins in my van and just about everyone was a different diameter. Not trying to create any more than I needed I just measured each one and pick up something close at the local big box parts store. Pre 68 VW pins worked for most which seeem to be the best quality too.
And, I bought one of those hinge tools which was pretty worthless from Bob Drake Reproductions. Actually, their customer service was even more worthless than the tool. Made my own tool per a design I later found on the internet. If I had an idea how to post it I would.
Good luck with those pins. Might be the biggest PITA of the whole project.

Re: gm hinge pins for 1st n 2nd gen
So I was having a hard time finding the correct drill bits at my local Ace hardware and online the cheapest i could find them was about $21 shipped for the pair. Then I checked Grainger, 3.67 for the H (part number 1F703) and 5.43 for the R (part number 4AH33). Hope this helps anyone looking.

Re: gm hinge pins for 1st n 2nd gen
I just replaced my drivers door pins and bushings yesterday with the Chrysler parts. I couldn't find the letter bits in town but True Value had a conversion chart so I used the next closest sizes. They were just a tiny bit too fat so I didn't have to use a vice to put things together, but tight enough they are not going anywhere and there is no play in the hinge. Now my door actually opens and closes easily, I am stoked on the results. I still need to adjust a bit to get it to perfect, and then I'll be getting those stick on rubber seals I saw in a different post.
