2nd Gen steering coulmn length Empty 2nd Gen steering coulmn length

    Post by Eagle1 Thu Oct 20, 2011 2:46 pm

    Hello all,
Does any on know the steering coulmn length measurement from the top of the outer shell of the column to the end of the lower shaft on a automatic 2nd Gen coulmn? I am thinking of getting a coulmn from Ididit for the 200r4 conversion I will be doing this winter. If not I will be using the Lokar cable floor shifter, which one is easist on the pocket book.
    Thanks Eagle1

The deal is, the steering wheel shaft is part of the van steering box,,,,in those other steering columns, it is part of their steering columns,,,,so you end up with 2 steering shafts that need to be cut and connected somehow,,,,,and what about the shifter,,,,,ours is below the steering box,,,,,theirs are above,,,,Van stuff is weird,,,,we got a column, a steering wheel and gear box ,and the shift shaft and levers,,,,,they are 3 separate systems and I think you want to squeeze them all into 1 shiny pretty unit,,,,,

Eagle 1, I went with a floor shifter on the 64, and got my column from Ididit. Buy the time you cut the shaft and add the u-joint to put the two together I had to have the stardard 30" column w/tilt cut down 6 1/4 inches to make a column 23 3/4" to fit right.

    G-Man,
    Was it a Lokar?
This is the parts list Lokar gave me, Did you use a 10 foot Shift cable or 8 foot?
23” 2004R Cable Operated Shifter Part No. COS6200RAM

    10’ 40 Series Cable Part No. 68209

    8’ 40 Series Cable Part No. 68200

2004R Horizontal Dash Indicator Kit Part No. CIND-1727

2004R Black Kickdown Cable Part No. KD-2700U

Black Speedometer Cable Kit Part No. SP-1500U

I will not have to change the coulmn if I go with a floor shifter.

I used the 8' on the 66 but I am running a th350 tranny.. Don't know where the shift lever is on a 200r but I think the trannies are the same length..
