hi, i'm new to the forums,i've mainly been a toyota van enthusiast, but when i noticed a dodge van,i decided i have to have one,i don't have one yet,but i'm going to be checking out a 67 dodge sportsman,it has the 225 slant six and an auto transmission,i'm considering possibly restoring it since the guy doesn't want hardly anything for it,he says it ran fine when he put it up 20 years ago,i know really long time!how hard would it be to get it running again?

bluefever wear are you from??? Something sitting that long every seal & gasket will be shot in that motor. I would get it only if it has a good body and just put something fresh in there. I'm not saying you couldn't get the old engine running, but you will be chasing leaks for a while

Is this the van you are talking about???
    https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com/a-vans-for-sale-f20/67-sportsman-ridden-hard-put-up-wet-t2440.htm

If so from what I see it would take alot to bring this one back. Some guy's are up for the challenge, but if you can't do body work leave this one to someone else.

My neighbor has a collector's edition '96 Vette with very low miles, but it's not a trailer queen. He's having been having a hard time selling it because it's not extremely low miles, but not enough miles to keep the seals and gaskets in good shape. I guess it sucks to be him Razz

Also bring some carb cleaner, jumper leads, fuses, test light, brake fluid, motor oil, lots of trans fluid, funnel, diff oil, grease and antifreeze/water. The brake lines are probably shot, so STAND on that peddle before you go putting it in gear.

Be sure to check out the rain gutters. Good luck.

do i really need all that just to turn it over and see if it'll run?also roughly how much would this thing weigh?it's obviously an extended version,i have a 95 chevy suburban 1/2 ton i just bought with the throttle bodied 350,do u think that's capable of towing it?

No, you don't need all that to see if it fires. I'm just remembering when I got my parts van running in my shop. Got the engine running, put it in gear in the loading dock, no brakes. I thought she'd run over the 6x6s coming back down. A little scary. My thoughts are the carb is probably varnished up and an electrical connection or 2 may be corroded, king pins may be frozen, etc.

The Suburban should handle it no problem. The uni-body vans are relatively light. Be sure to have a good receiver hitch set-up. I would use a car trailer.

Yes they all are unibody and you will want to look that over carefully. We are not trying you out of this van. Just making sure you get a good one to start. With these early's its best to get the best body you can from the start. It will save alot of time and even more money. They say the right van finds you and with our help maybe we can make the finding easier if this is not the one for you.

I'd bring the kitchen sink, but that's just me. Starter, sockets/wrenches, PB Blaster, torch, fire extinguisher, wire, jumper cables, dust off (turned upside down is freeze-it), etc.

Trans may be drained from a bad seal. Mopars take ATF +3 or +4. Beware the possible left hand lug nuts on the driver's side.

I can attest to the whole 'the van finds you' thing. I wish I could have found something a little cleaner, but I'm very happy with what I bought.
