    A100 radios Empty A100 radios

Post by VanninBlaino Sat Jul 16, 2011 6:53 pm

Are the A100 radios the same as any other mopar radio? I'd LOVE to have one of those crazy radios that look old with all the new technology. I know they're a pretty penny, but it would look sweet. I know they make them for vans, but any other car i can search for? I found 60s GTO/Tempest radios, but they are chrome and dont look quite the same. Icould use it, still looks from the time period, but its not right, know what i mean? And does anyone know the dimensions on the GTO/Tempest radios? It might be worht getting that to have chrome instead of black plastic. Hmm. Suggestions?

this is the site where i found the GTO radio.

It is for a 66. Just in case radios are different over the years, I have a 1967 A100. Thanks!

$595is what its at that website. I guess itll be over 600 for these radios. :/

I did find this though. Itd be better if my radio worked though.

    A100 radios Empty A-100 & 108 radios

Post by terencejiminy Sat Jul 16, 2011 9:49 pm

THE factory and dealer installed radio was very unique (but only an AM). It was only offered in A-100 & 108, then UP the hill into the Dodge LCF, L600-700 and the cab over 1000 tilt trucks. Not passenger cars. Crying or Very sad
The antenna was mounted on the rt front of the A-100 just above the rt headlight.
Yes I have a complete radio, speeker (newer style that makes it sound 100% better than 1964 to 1970), AND correct antenna that all WORKS. Wink

Yep, unique radio. There are some places that will retore and update vintage radios. Check references carefully!
You can find an original radio and have it restored or updated to look the same but have modern guts. There is also a way to add MP3 input to the antenna if you want.

The factory radio was a Motorola Model 706. I have a functional factory one in my '66 and I've managed to pick up a few spares as well. They still show up on eBay once in a while.

I think the radio is the same as in the D100's..... I have a spare if you need one. I can check in the parts manual, it should have the answer....

Radios are the same for D-W's and A-L's......part number 2450285 up to serial number 10,001. And part number 2651948 for serial number 10,002 and after. Hope this helps.

This is what i have in my van.

    A100 radios 294f9f09
It says Hitachi on it, which Hitachi did make things back in the 60s-70s in america. I did research on that, becuase at first i thought that was odd since they make trains and things like that now.
    A100 radios 4c39217c
Yesterday i went to take it out, it wouldnt bugde out easy so i just put it back in. Its way too hot inside a non-moving van in 100 degree Louisiana heat. I screwed it back in and both sides chipped off from the screws, i didnt even screw them in all the way yet. The plasitc is super brittle. That could mean its old, or someone left this van to the elements for a while.
    A100 radios 78431aee
The whole reason i was taking it out was to try to get to the speaker and see if one is even there. This radio has power to it. the line for the tuner only moves with the presets, not with the tuner mover button thing. but it is on there isnt any static, nothing, so i was trying to see if i could see loose wiring or no speaker.
    A100 radios 15a7bbe6
I just want to know what i have. Anyone? and what is the big slot for that is to the right of it. I joked and said it was a coin slot, thats an easy way to get friends to pay gas money. ;D

Blast From The Past- Does your radio work? And can you post pictures of that? I might be interested.

Also, where the radio is is a HUGE cut out hole, i dont know if all As are like this, i only thought there was supposed to be a hole for the tuner, and two holes for the dials to come through. Mine is one huge cut out rectangle and the plate for the radio barely covers it.

This is a picture the night i got my van, the radio looks stock and it's like you said, one square hole and two small holes for the knobs. Mine had no trim around it and no knobs. Sunday i put a new HD/ i-pod/cd player in mine. And yes i cut the dash to fit it. if you want my old radio and speaker, your welcome to it.

It's funny that my key is on the left side of the steering wheel, my wiper switch is closer to the steering and my cig lighter is up by the front window. Mine is a 67

My 67 has the key on the right, straight across heater controls and no dash crash pad but has late model front doors. 67 was a weird year.

John- What sub model is yours? All the As have that nice interior pieces? I thought only Custom Sportsmans would, and the rest were more work vans with metal walls and such. Hm.

Blast- thats cool. I have absolutely no money to buy anything now though. Actually, right now my van is at my girlfriends house, i had to get a ride home becuase she wouldnt start. I bought this van that was a "good strong running van..." and now i've got about 800 dollars so far in the engine plus whatever else broke tonight. It'd be real nice to get your radio in the future if you hold on to it, I'm very interested. right now i hope i can get the mechanics figured out on my van so i can make a ride to Memphis September 1st for a Relaxed Atmosphere show.

And would an original radio work with my giant cut out hole in my dash? Or would i have to fill it all in and re cut and smaller hole like the original should be?
