My pleasure!!! I love it when a plan comes together Looks like I misled you on the location of the cast number, so I'm glad you found it! Now that you've learned a few fact-digging secrets, you will probably be jazzed finding all the van's secrets! I know I was!
I would recommend buying the Falcon Six Performance Handbook from off the Ford Six site, if you do any of your own wrenching. The engines are pretty simple in the grand scheme of things, but it's nice to know what things are recommended for hopping them up and learning the quirks!

Re: Bought a 1964 Econoline today!
I'm just curious... does your van have a heater box? If so, is it mounted on the floor or under the dash? Just thinking that maybe the van is newer than a 64.
If you want to get really stoked, take a look at the plug for the Brake Master Cylinder next to the parking brake handle. Is it rectangular or round? You may know that many Econoline owners have upgraded their braking systems to the 1967 M/C for the dual zone (front / rear) braking.
There are other clues which might give you other secrets about what you have there. Of course, the VIN is one of those things!
Does the van have a full engine crossmember passing under the oil pan, or the two arms at the sides of the oil pan?

Im positive its the 64. I have the 1st owners original Oweners manual with vin# Matching to the company Rex Floor Covering July 28, 1964. Pretty cool. My van does have the heaterbox under the dash. A rather odd looking device. According to the owners manual the heater was an accessorie option you could add on. LOL seatbelts were even a accessorie, cigerate lighter, locking gas cap. The van has all of those. Some more stuff to explore.
Im going to crawl under there and snap some for more detail. Think im going to start a new thread in the members showcase in a day or two after I give the van its 1st bath in what looks to be a decade. Will be pic heavy.

Or you could get one of the moderators to rename this thread and move it to the Member's Showcase section. Just sayin'!

Re: Bought a 1964 Econoline today!
Hmmm... purchased in July of 64... heater is under the dash, not the floor... sounds like your van is actually a 65! You can confirm through the VIN, but there are also some design changes between 64 and 65 (heater box location, steering column brace shape).

The black heater box is on the floor under the dash in front of the dog house. Sorry for the confusion you said under the dash. Misunderstood, didnt know you meant it was attached under the dash.
Im trying to decode my vin, but am not having much luck. Cant find a decoder for it. Anything on the site for decoding?
My vin E14TH567956

Hey Ray, post all three lines on the data plate. EconopartsUSA (you out there Tim?) has been getting them decoded on the oldeconolines yahoo site for members here.
To rename your thread, try sending a PM to Danthevanman (he changed mine).

I noticed that Tim hasn't replied on your thread yet, so I sent it in for you. Will let you know when Mark decodes it.
Have you joined any of the yahoo groups yet? There is "oldeconolines" and "econosrus". Lots of info to be found there (and a little BS too! ).

Re: Bought a 1964 Econoline today!
My carpet removing adventure over the last several days
The van as mentioned at the beginning was originally owned by a Floor Covering business in the 60s through who knows when.
Well the van came with carpet on the floors, doghouse, walls and even a small part of the dash. Not sure what these people were thinking but the carpet on the floor was 3 layers which held in moisture and caused a little surface rust. No big deal. The carpet on the walls was put on with heavy duty construction adhesive and it took me about 4hrs hrs to remove it using a heat gun to soften it, scraper and my own strength. There is even carpet padding in the crossbeams at the ceiling which have caused some surface rust. I probably sweat a few gallons sitting in a +100degree van with a heat gun.
Ive gotten it all removed and now have to figure out how to remove all the glue on the walls or just leave it. No rust at all, just glue. the dog house top will be sanded down to primer and repaint.
Some pics
With carpet- before
And Now that Ive removed it all
Let me tell you guys, I had a blast removing it......

You know I was thinking about making myself a temp AC out of a Icechest a few small fans and some PVC untill I can afford to buy the AC from vintage-air. Ive seen guys do similar and it helps.
