I was looking at gp's van and it has a good pointer on it , but could use a coat of paint. I also would like to remove it so it don't get damaged in the rebuild. Do I have to tear the whole column a part to get it out???

Ive got a 2nd gen auto column tore apart at the farm ,, I think some of the bolts/screws that hold it together are internal below the turn signal stuff ? been a year so Im not sure....

Re: Auto trans pointer removal ???
It is held on by a clip on the shaft that is built into the shift collar,,,,,,so either the steering wheel has to come off and the column raised up or you might be able to remove the 2 bolts on the shift lever assembly under the van on the steering box and lower the shift shaft to let the pointer slide down and off of the shift collar. And the shift lever needs to be out to let the shift shaft come loose from the shift collar.
