I ordered all of my motor parts, pistons, rings.. etc. a month ago. Just got it ready to put everything in and wrong stuff. Shoulda decoded the block first. 67 HD should have 240 in it. I have a 1979 3.3. or 200 from a Mercury Zephyr. That would explain the dura spark electronic ignition. That's cool though, parts exchanged and will be here Tuesday. Completely rebuilt the 3 sp and just need to find the right input shaft seal. Got 2 others coming Monday though.

So far the 9" has all new gears and bears as does the tranny. Motor coming. Off to body shop by next weekend if no burps. Hope to reveal the new van at Baker's so no pics yet. I have em to cronicle the build though.

For the record,a 67 HD was available with a 170 also. I just got rid of a 66 HD 170. The HD pkg was basically frame and undercarriage components and had nothing to do with the motor itself as odd as it may seem.

Yeah, I decoded it Thursday and it came back as a 1979 mercury zephyr 200 motor. It was a pretty strong motor when I pulled it but needed some seals and soft plugs and I couldn't stop there.

    Tim,
Yeah I just assumed HDs had 240s never woulda thought a 170 would be a good match.

The first HD models came out in late 63 and the 240 wasnt available until 65. Even some of the Supervans had the 170 in it.

    Stu,
I think Carl was asking if you decoded the VIN # of the van? That would tell you the size of engine it originally came with. Of course it doesn't matter now, it would just be for your info. But would also tell you info about the tranny, rearend gearing, if it's a true HD and so on....Like Carl say's, there's a lot of info on the VIN and data plate.

Oops. I don't read too well after a little partying on a Saturday evening Wink Yeah just read it again. I did decode that when I got it. It did have a 240 originally that's why I bought all the parts, with a 9" 456 gear. Assemblend in ohio and olive green paint. The gear had already been changed, it had a 330 when I pulled it out last month.
