    Vin Decoding Empty Vin Decoding

Post by Oldsmobubble Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:54 am

Anyone have info on G10 vin decoding? The van that I purchased is coming with only a bill of sale. The seller is saying that the Vin is GSI159Pxxxxxx.
    From what I've read the 3rd digit designates the GVW. With the numbers 1,2... He's saying it's an "I". Wouldn't a G10 (i/2 ton) be a (1) in the 3rd digit?

thanks Donivan, you're the man! I had found a decoder like this but it was trying to lump C model pickups in the same code chart and had errors.
I was surprised to to find that my van was assembled in the Pontiac plant, hence the letter P as 6th character

GMC might be a little different,,,,,But I usually see GS for 6 cyl,,,,GE for 8, 1 for 1/2 ton,,,,,2 for 3/4 ton,,,,,,,5 for van,,,,,,6 for SportVan,,,then the year,,,,,,seems like all of them have that P,,,,,,,,,,,I don't know that there is any thing to say if it is a 90 or 108 on the 2nd Gen Vans,,,,,,,

The only thing that isn't right is the "I". More than likely, it's just GS159P******.
