The points need to be closed at the time you check for voltage, otherwise it will read 12,,,,,The voltage at the positive side of the coil will jump from 6-12 depending on what the points are doing,,,,so check it with the engine running,,,,,you got a lot of variables to check if the engine won't start AFTER it gets hot,,,,,,you could have the engine flooded out,,,,,,is there a lot of gas when you look down the carb after it gets hot? Something could be wrong in the distributor or the wiring AFTER it gets hot,,,,,,,Is the points and condenser new and ADJUSTED correctly? You can test for spark after it is hot by taking the distributor cap off, turning the engine over to where the points are closed,,,,,,holding the coil wire close to ground and everytime you open the points by hand, spark should jump out the coil through the wire and to ground,,,,,,
