Re: Fat Mat Install
Lookin' good southern man! I also was inspired to order the Fat Mat after Van Halen's post last month. Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I think I'll wait for it to warm up a little before I install it though!
What are you going to use for flooring?

"What are you going to use for flooring?"
PO sprayed the whole floor with truck bed liner. Plan on building a bed platform in the back, then probably 3/4" or 5/8" plywood forward of that and then hardwood over that. I'm putting two subwoofers in the front edge of the bed platform so I'm wondering if I should line that panel, and maybe the whole platform, with fatmat. I'm out of it now so we'll see how it sounds when I get that far. Much to do before that though...

Re: Fat Mat Install
By the way Carl, it has been pretty cold here as well, but I heated up each strip after I cut it by holding it in front of a space heater for a minute or two. Then I held the space heater up to the section I was going to cover and heated the metal up. Time consuming, but easy, and bottom line is it worked.
Hopefully you also got the little wooden roller, or have something similar, because you'll need it. Take your time. That stuff is hard to remove once it contacts the metal, so start at one edge and kind of roll it on with your hand. Then you can go back with the roller. Smaller pieces work best. Applying it over the contours is the toughest part, and I ended up slicing through every contour with the utility knife for a solid fit. You'll see what I mean when you start doing it. I don't think it's necessary to completely cover each panel, but I have some on each section. You'll need more if you want complete coverage.

Re: Fat Mat Install
Looks great! Is 100 sq ft enough if you're not doing the floor? How long did it take you?

Re: Fat Mat Install
Yep, that's where I got mine austin! Took me a few days, working a couple of hours at a time.
I lined the roof the most but every panel from the front roof on back is lined, at least down the middle if not fully covered. You can kind of see this in the pics. I also lined the inside of the front doors and 2 x 3 strip between the headlights. And then I ran out. I've already done the inside of the dog house with something else, but I might like to have some more for the front bulk head and floor.

Re: Fat Mat Install
Man... You guys got me thinking..... Since I've already thermal sealed the inside roofs of both vans.
Southern man? Do you thing 100 sq feet of this stuff is enough to do the sides of my panel and still have enough left over to do cover the sides of my window van under the windows?
Dan

Re: Fat Mat Install
Hard to say, but you could do some quick measuring to see. The stuff is 18" wide, and comes in 2 - 50 foot rolls. You don't have to go top to bottom either, if you're trying to stretch it. I had what i consider enough for about 95% in my panel, but I have no windows.

"makes a big difference in the noise level?"
Hard to say as I haven't driven it yet. I've got some of the electrical disconnected at the moment so I can't take it for a spin. But all you have to do is rap on a panel, or close the door, and you can tell the difference.
