Shocks and spring parts Empty Shocks and spring parts

    Post by Chris&Adam Tue Dec 14, 2010 10:07 am

    Hi
Does anyone know of a good source for front and rear shock absorbers for my '69 A108?

Also, I need to replace the shackles including their rubbers, and the front eye bushing on both the front springs and the rear springs. I located some of these parts on the rockauto website but their were various sizes to choose form. Again, does anyone have a good source for these items and their part numbers if possible?

    Thanks

Summit Racing for the shocks, (summitracing.com or just call them at 1-800-230-3030).

Springs n Things for the bushings and rubbers. 1-800-903-9019.

Going to be doing this job myself in the spring.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I would like to order the shocks from Summit as I will be ordering quite a few other parts from them for our roadrunner so could combine the shipping fees. When I enter the van details into their search system it only brings up the front shocks listed below:

Monroe Shocks & Struts 31131MM - Monroe Monro-Matic Plus Shocks and Struts

I cannot find a listing for a matching/suitable rear shock absorber. Does anyone have a Summit part number for the rear shocks?

    Thanks

I used these on both of my vans and they fit perfectly:

    KG5422 KYB Gasajust (Front)
    KG5423 KYB Gasajust (Rear)

Try having the Summit guys cross reference some of the numbers the other guys posted in this thread, it's been my experience that the Summit web site doesn't really list *all* of the parts for our vans correctly, they are just to old. alternatively, you can call the customer service numbers for Monroe and other shock makers, get part numbers that they say will fit, and then call Summit and see if they have them in stock.

eta: "Gabriel" shows part number 82065 as fitting an A-100. Link is here.

Orielly Auto Parts shows "Monroe" gas shock number "20702" for the front.

well, it looks like Advance, O'Reilly, Napa and AutoZone no longer carry the rears, only the fronts.

I called Garbiel and Monroe directly, they no longer have a rear shock part #

I just cross referenced those with Napa:
    KG5422 > Napa 94050
    KG5423 > Napa 94023

One of them is a "stem" type shock instead of having through-bolts top and bottom. I'll have a look at my van tonight and see whats on it and measure against the ones that are there.

    Links here and here.

There are two different versions of each model. Our vans use the bolt and bushing type, not the stem type. I was able to order mine from Summit with no issues.

Yes, I ordered mine through the website. (The pics are wrong but the parts are correct.) KG5422 and KG5423. I used these for both my vans, so I'm sure they're right. I had to reuse the metal sleeve inside the rubber bushings for the front top bolts on mine, but the install was pretty painless.

I know this isn't my thread but I'm going to post updates here instead of creating another one.

I didn't get any joy from Summit on the phone and rather than order them and have them shipped to me I decided to try and buy local so I can return them if needed.

As mentioned above it appears almost none of the major chains can identify a front shock for a '65 Van. However! AutoZone had a Gabriel shock available for a '65 A100 Truck. All the shocks mentioned are about $18 each.

I stopped in this morning and ordered two '65 A100 van rear shocks:
    Part Number: 82065
    Category Name: Classic shock
    Internal Design: Twin tube
    Extended Length: 19.04 in.
    Collapsed Length: 11.93 in.
    Stroke: 7.11 in.

and two front shocks for a '65 A100 truck
    Part Number: 82046
    Category Name: Classic shock
    Internal Design: Twin tube
    Extended Length: 26.04 in.
    Collapsed Length: 15.43 in.
    Stroke: 10.61 in.

Judging by the specs it looks like the fronts have a longer range of motion that the rears. They should arrive from the warehouse by Friday and I'll be able to fit check them on Sunday/Monday.

I'm assuming the chassis are similar enough to fit, we'll see and I'll post back here.

We ordered the KYB shocks as advised in a previous post.
KG5422 for the front and KG5423 for the rear
The front shocks fit fine, however the rear shocks seem too long.
When the van is sat on the ground the measurement between the upper and lower shock absorber mounting points is approximately 16.250".
Is this measurement correct, obviously taking into account that the springs may have sagged some over the years. What is the measurement between the mounting points on everyone elses vans?

The details for the KG5423 as advised are as follows:

    Compressed length = 17.13"
    Extended length = 28.35"

As the numbers show the shock is not suitable. Is there something we are missing?

We need a solution asap, any advice will be gratefully received.
    Thanks

I put these on the rear of mine from Autozone and they fit fine:
    Part Number: 82065
    Category Name: Classic shock
    Internal Design: Twin tube
    Extended Length: 19.04 in.
    Collapsed Length: 11.93 in.

    about $22 each.

I just realized that my previous post included an incorrect part number for the rear shocks. The rear KYB's are supposed to be KG5430's. Originally, I was using the KG5422's on the front, but it requires you to reuse the metal sleeve in the rubber bushing. The KG5430's have the type E2 ends which include the metal sleeve, and the dimensions work on either the front or the rear of the van. I am now using KG5430's on the front and rear of both of my vans and they fit perfectly.
