Brake light switch Empty Brake light switch

Post by Stoopid john Sun Jun 12, 2011 6:49 am

I had a problem with my left brake light not working. I traced it back to the turn signal switch (i'm not real happy with, 2 on ebay and the cheapest is $160) But i was able to mess with the turn signal switch to make it work. But i had to really push hard on the brakes for the light to come on. I thought that was easy enough and when i went to adjust the brake light switch, it fell apart.

So, if you need a brake light switch, one from a 76 chevy caprice will work. It's threaded shaft is smaller but i welded a washer to the org bracket and installed it, even the dodge factory plug fit.

Here is the autozone / Duralast part number : DR496

I also did the LED tail lights too, anyone need the stock tail lights?

Brake light switch Empty Parts & brake switch & the =Parts Houses!!

    Post by Twinpilot001 Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:22 am

It is amazing to me (maybe -only me??) that the auto parts guys cant even come up with this type switch as shown here??? Its just a standard switch that was used for so many years on Gm's & fords and id bet chryaler stuff too. Guess the parts guys are all young types that cant do anything but look @ a computer screen & have absolutely NO KNOWLEDGE about cars & trucks?/ Guess they all should have a year training in a junk yard before gettin a parts counter job!! Being an old guy=i only use Napa for parts as the other parts houses always have the Younger guys with no knowledge of parts . But =i will add - those guys have the tattoos , piercings, and Fancy hair styles -i just love to look @ -thats why I go to those parts houses!! RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! affraid Happy Vannin!!

Mine is different than that, mine is threaded with a plunger type, it uses movement not brake fluid.

John, do all As have the light on the dash that tell you when your brake lights are on? Mine has a wierd light that comes on on the dash. And, my brake lights come on only if i slam on the brakes, too. What did you go with for LEDs? And i have revewrse lights, too. I was going to find LED ones since my lens are shot and french them into the back for a nice clean look.

Do you have a 2 line master cylinder with a pressure differential switch with a wire connected to it?

The one "governor" is showing at the lower right is for a '67 and up dual system that uses 2 of the switches that acme found. . The pedal switch is for 64- to early '67. I have both types of switches on an early '67 with a single master. If your brake lights work with the wires hooked together the hydraulic pressure switch is bad.

Those are Chevy parts in my picture,,,,,but same idea,,,, if you have a light on the dash,,,,,,AND,,,,,,,,it looks like it belongs there, a 2 line master cylinder uses a dash light,,,,,,or do you have a separate hazard light switch? They also use a dash light.

A little trimming in the hole of the body, they sink right in. It's crazy how bright they are.
