Custom 700R4 Crossmember
Here is a link to some pictures of the crossmember we made to install my 700R4 in my '66. I hope someone finds it useful.

Re: Custom 700R4 Crossmember
I just went to your album, hit print screen, saved it in Paint as a .jpg, then put it in my reply. So how much do you think it would cost to have a custom crossmember like that made?

How many? I think it'd be cheaper if I made more.

Re: Custom 700R4 Crossmember
It's really hard to say,,,,,that would only fit a 700R4 transmission and then you need someone with an Early Chevy Van willing to spend like $2000 for a store bought transmission,,,,,,,you could maybe modify it so it works with a 2004R, PowerGlide, TH350 or a manual transmission ,,,,,It's all about money,,,,,put up a rough price and see if it motivates anyone to show some interest in having your type of crossmember made up for them......

Re: Custom 700R4 Crossmember
Hey Roman,
I have a rebuilt 700r4 that I was going to put behind my 350 in my no-door '64. It has a power glide in it now. Looks like you had to cut the factory cross member for tail shaft or drive shaft clearance. Is that right?

Re: Custom 700R4 Crossmember
HAHA! I totally understand. I have a small heating and a/c business that takes up a lot of my time too. My youngest is 12 now, but the family thing has to be first priority. Keep me in mind if ya find time though.

Re: Custom 700R4 Crossmember
No, just kinda measured it and welded as we went. Just measured the mounting width and the drop where the trans mount is and figured the curve. A little pipe bending and zapping and voila!

Re: Custom 700R4 Crossmember
I, too, would be interested in purchasing that crossmember from you. Or pay you to build one exactly like it. The PO of my van welded a chain to each framerail and ran a bolt thru it to the tranny. I don't feel safe driving this way, but i can't weld. Would you reconsider building more of those?

Re: Custom 700R4 Crossmember
There are a lot of different types of crossmembers that people invented to install a different transmission in their vans,,,,,this one is pretty simple to put in and CHEAP,,,,,,,the last time I used one was to install a 3 speed overdrive transmission in Devimaus 2nd gen....seems like 1 size fits all,,,,,,
