Tuesday we went to Jefferson, TX and toured the downtown area. Not any good photo opps, just this shot where we parked:

    Carl's Econo - Page 9 100_3110

Headed north and stayed in Hope, AR for the night. Toured Clinton's first home this morning. Couldn't park in front, so here's a shot of the parking lot!

    Carl's Econo - Page 9 100_3112

Next we headed to Historic Washington. The whole town is a state park! The visitor center is the old courthouse.

Behind the van is the town's Blacksmith Shop.

Arkansas's tallest magnolia tree (located within Historic Washington State Park):

We are spending the night in Conway AR tonight. Gonna' do a little sightseeing here in the morning then head the the Mid-South Econoline meet at Petit Jean Mountain State Park.

Carl I was looking through your showcase & noticed you gutted your oil-bath air cleaner and converted it to a paper filter. I would like to do the same on my Super-8. How does the interior of the Cleaner come out? There was nothing in the shop manual and I couldn't see any thing obvious when I opened up the cleaner. ~ Tim

Tim, the air filter is all made together, it doesn't unbolt. I used a cut off wheel to gut it and take the center 'wall' out. I guess I should of written a 'how it's done' thread, now it looks like you can!

I guess I'll start dissecting. Fortunately I have an extra on the parts van, so if I completely botch it I can try again.

Opening the oil-bath filter is a stubborn experience. Somehow, I did it once (and had a lap full of dirty motor oil IIRC lol)

I'm almost finished retrofitting my oil bath air cleaner, need to pick up a filter & take a couple more pictures. I'll post it in between the seats when complete.

Drove the Econoline to Lake Charles, LA yesterday. On our way back we stopped in Sulphur for a late lunch/early supper. There were only a couple of customers inside. After a while one of the waitstaff came into the dining room and hollared, "Who's Volkswagen van is that outside? It sure is cute." We didn't say a word, but I did smile a little inside!

I get that all the time too because of the color. Come to think of it, we got a lot of "Scooby" references with the old white van also!

Carl's Econo - Page 9 Empty Introducing Nikki

Post by EconoCarl Thu Dec 15, 2011 3:36 pm

Whew! My thread got a little dusty!

    Meet Nikki:

    Carl's Econo - Page 9 2011-113

Nikki bought the ol' Cassius Clay van today! Her and her husband came to look at it today. It hadn't been started in like six months. They brought a battery to jump it off and we didn't even need it! I pulled the choke, turned it over enough to get fuel in the carb and presto, she fired right up! I told them about the site, hopefully they'll chime in soon.

Hope he's a good body man. I'm sure that one can be saved with someone that knows their way around a bodyshop. Did you invite them to Petit Jean?? It would be great to see it again.

"She" knows her way around a body shop! She's the manager of a dealership's body shop down the road.
