How do I identify if my engine is a 170 or 225? My VIN number indicates it originally had a V8 but it's obviously been swapped out for a slant six. Just trying to find out which one.

Re: Engine type
On the right (passenger) side front of the engine where the head meets the block is a pad. It will be stamped either 225 or 170. One quick way to tell is to look at the by-pass hose between the water pump and head. If it's about 2 to 2-1/2 inches long, you have a 225. If it's very short, say 1-1/2" then you have a 170.
Of course somebody could really messed with you and put a 198 slant six in.
