Whats up just saying hi. Pretty cool sight here. I havent looked around to much just yet. I tried to register earlier this week and something didnt work. So I got a little bored not being able to look at pics in posts. Just re registered and cant wait to go look around.

I am from Plainfield IL, and have a '63 Corvair van. I got it last Oct. And Ive been throwing parts at it to get it up to par for driving. Its getting there, still got a few things to do. But for now its driveable. My to do list is getting shorter. Dying to be able to drive it on a regular basis though.

His name is Sancho ( anyone know who that is? LOL) Soon to be renamed (per my wife). He is a '63 Chevy Corvan originaly bought by Ma Bell. He came from AZ 3 years ago and is solid as can be, only 2 4"x6" rust holes on him, which for around here is near unheard of! I intend on making him handicaped accesible for my father, who is wheel chair bound. So I can bring him to cruise nights and car shows, and anywhere else he may need to go, without having to transfer him out of the wheel chair.

your more than welcome here with your Corvan , in the old forum there were areas to chat and post. But the Corvair guys never jumped into the forum so it was dropped. There is a area here you can ask questions post in Early Enough section or any of the "G" sections

    What town is that in?

I do see several Vair owners have visited here within the last few days, I recognized their names on the list on the main forum page.

Yeah Im new the van myself and have found the Corvans are definetly a odd man out type vehicle. Not much FC corvair action on the Vair sights, but better than nothing.

Hahahaha, did a reverse directory look up of the nail shop, found them in Plainfield. Never noticed them, probably drove by thousands of times. The Smileys on 95th st just east of I294 is my favorite stop, dont get out there much.

    Welcome corvanman!

I'm pretty sure no one is going to be making anything like an Early anytime soon Smile It's great to have so many people around here who care about saving these things. I'm sure that if you keep us posted about your van, others will follow you here.

Hope to see you around soon.

Nice corvair, i think i got pics of it at a car show in valporiso indiana, ive noticed a few people have covairs and i think they are cool looking but i have a question, how do they drive on the interstate, can you go 60/70 mile an hour with no problem. Ive always wanted one but i was always told that 55 was the most you should do. And again sweet looking corvair

I just found a corvan. Talked to the older gentlman and he is considering selling it. He is the originalowner, it has the orginal paint, wheels, no frills added. Minimal wear and tear. He's gonna think about it and call me in a few days....crossing my fingers. Ill get a pic of it soon.

Donivan, thats Sicksty3's house correct? Ive spoke online with him a little over at Corvair center forum.

Chevyvan93, I cant say for sure on the speed, I did have mine up to 70 (gps) for a short time, it was about 5 miles or so, its still new to me so I havent had much of a chance to drive it. I washed it and jumped on I55 from rt30 to 52 and got it to 70 and cruised there most the time, at like 3800rpm. It was funny passing people in it doing that because of the looks it got. Right now it wanders a bit, I have a arm (boomerang) to replace and it has some slop, but other than that it was fine. I also have small tires on it, they were on it when I got it. I am not redoing alot on it, just trying to get it up to par mechanicly. The last owner got it so far and Im getting it as good as I can so I can enjoy it. I put a bed/bench in the back (lays flat into a bed) out of a conversion van in a junkyard.

I do know where a gmc handivan, and chevy van are for sale in this general area if any one is interested. I will post them up in the classifieds eventualy.

It doesnt have any right now. It does have a gas heater, that I plan on going through, along with eventualy at least putting the rear heat setup back in it. I know of parts van about a hour away, Ive already got some parts from it, and cant wait for the snow to melt and go back out there.
