Donivan65, I'd be glad to meet you on your trip. I used to live in SD, moved out here 2 years ago.
I'm on the way, gotta wonder why Ashfork rather than going thru Jerome and Sedona....

Perhaps a side trip North from Williams Question

I will be on a 5000 mile trip and aint got time to see all the sights on 89a,,,,,,that can take forever,,,,,I will be hauling a motorcycle on my motorhome,,,,,,,last time I was in Jerome, they hauled away the Mayor for Dope,,,,,,I like Sedona, its real pretty there,,,,,I don't like the heat and traffic in Phoenix and those grades on 17 North are too hard to climb. And who in their right mind would live in Yarnell,,,,,thats the middle of nowhere,,,,,,on the edge of a cliff,,,,but there is a blue Ford Van there,,,,,,,

So you know the area! Laughing
Yarnell sure seems a lot nicer than Aguila, Gladden and Wendon. My SO says they look like something from a Rob Zombie or Stephen King movie, and they are HOT in the summer.
I haven't tapped into the vans here in the Prescott area, but I saw a 1st gen Chevy yesterday (Dark Blue) and there is an A-108 (Orange) here in CV.
I go up through Skull Valley rather than Wilhoit, especially if towing.

billossv, I'll be over at the Avi resort Feb 26th & 27th for the sand drags.
I'm crewing on a friend's car. Maybe you can stop by and say Hi.
He's running a Mopar (natch) small block in a cut down truck. Look for a Green thing with The Beast painted on.

I don't go up 95 to Kingman anymore,,,,,there is too much traffic past Lake Havasu and its HOT around there in June,,,,,the sooner I get up in the Arizona Mountains the sooner things cool down,,,,,So what about the Skull Valley turn off,,,,is it a faster way to get to Prescott rather than the 50 switchbacks going through the Forest?

It's a little further, but usually about the same time. Towing is much easier...
there are a few narrow spots, but a bike trailer shouldn't be a concern.

My Honda Scrambler is on my rear bumper,,,,,Its just that if you have to drive 50 miles of winding mountain roads at 15 MPH, thats a good way to lose 3 hours and a full tank of gas,,,,,I usually leave San Diego at noon and make it to the Flagstaff rest stop for the night,,,,,stopping at the Kingman or Phoenix rest stops is just too hard to sleep in 100 degree weather. So its up into the Mountains I go,,,,,Stopping for gas in Prescott around 6 pm,,,,,,On the way back in June, I stop for lunch there then head down the mountain into the Desert for the next 250 miles until I have to climb up the Laguna Mountains to get home,,,,,,

    It splits at Kirkland Junction.
If you go to Google maps, and select Get Directions
it says going from Kirkland Junction to Prescott through Wilhoit is 22.1 miles (35 minutes).
Going from Kirkland Junction to Prescott through Skull Valley is 31.2 miles (58 minutes).
I'd disagree with those times. You stop at the right turn before Kirkland, and it's 25 MPH thru Skull Valley, but the rest is 45 MPH or more. The twists thru the other way tends to slow you down to less than 45 a lot. You also can avoid downtown Prescott and take Willow Creek Road up to 89, where it joins at the airport, since you are heading up to Ash Fork.
