    I need your vast knowledge again friends,

    My Steering wheel has a lot of play. I don't expect anything super tight like todays cars, I realize it's old and the steering isn't that tight.

    But i can jerk back and forth a lot with no effect on the steering. I'm trying to figure out what parts might need to be replaced, but being this is my first vehicle i've really worked on, not so savy on possible problems.

    But afterwards realized that doesn't effect the steering wheel play. laugh at me hahah

    On a Chevy steering box theres a screw on the steering box to tighten up the steering a little, not sure if there something like that on Mopar's

    There is a long procedure to adjust the steering box, but it may be time to rebuild.
    To adjust, here's a list of the high points:
    Find the center (rotate to each stop, counting turns, make sure it's in the middle).
    Loosen stop nut on steering box, then adjust slotted stud in center to specs.
    Tighten stop nut and check for binding. If adjusted too tight, it will wear parts inside and still not adjust out all the slop.

    Yes, the A100 steering boxes can be adjusted. I did Skooby's last fall and it was pretty painless. If you don't have a shop manual yet, it's worth the dough to get one. It has step-by-step procedures for almost everything in it.

    Rebuild pricing varies on the general area, the shop and the box. I haven't had one done for 10 years, and that was on a 1940. That ran ~$350 if I remember. Like SnarkyPoet said, get a manual and give the adjustment a try.
    Also check the lube.

    1st, make sure the slop is in the steering box,,,,,rock the steering wheel and watch the pitman arm ,,,,if it is moving, the problem is downstream from the steering box like drag link, tie rods, kingpins or wheel bearings.

    I've got the same play. As mentioned above, check to see if you pitman arm is moving in conjunction with the movement of the steering wheel. If it is, you can basically move on to each joint in a ABC order and locate your play. Could be a combination of everything but I think this link is probably the main problem fixer

    these old steering boxes were a weak link. if your king pins were real tight you could rip a steering box out in no time. also trying to turn the wheel while stopped was hard on them as well. best to be moving while turning.
    i'm on box # 2 on my a and used 3 on my old van back in the 70's. i't the bearing balls at the bottom that wear out and start all the play. never seen a repair kit to fix one of these boxes. good luck. i have one spare and looking for another locally.
