Hey, new to the forum! Been lurking for years, but finally found a 64 G10!
So, my question is, has anybody gotten one of the sending units from Vans Auto? I'm about to pull the trigger on one, but it output line is throwing me off.. why is there a threaded fitting? Mine just used a rubber hose and fuel clamp.. I've sent them a message, and I can't get a direct answer. Is it just an erroneous design? If I'm gonna have to modify it, I'll just get something else that costs less. Thanks everyone!

There's another company that makes the replacement tank for the 2nd gen Chevy Vans that sells senders for both 1st & 2nd gen vans. But they also have the same threaded end on there's. All you need to do is get threaded adapter to 5/16 rubber gas line. like what is on a 1st gen van. Not sure where else you would find something cheaper you wouldn't have to modify (it or tank)a lot. Finding one that is 30 ohm is the important thing as gas gauge is 30 ohm on 1st gens. hope this helps

Who else is making replacement tanks?... I'd be interested in maybe buying one if I can get them to add an improvement that Van's Auto isn't willing to add.....The fill pipe just dumping into the left side of the tank rather than continuing inside the tank and terminating on the right side is/was a factory defect when combined with the low placement of the vented cap on the left side of the van......By the time the third-gens came out, the cap had been moved higher up and was no longer vented.....
Isn't anybody else here sick of the gasoline gushing out on right turns after a fill up? My 68 Suburban had the same defect!..... Gas was cheap back then and folks didn't mind the smell I guess...…
Companies building us replacement tanks should include this anti-spill feature and should also include a second top hole and internal well for guys that want to utilize an in-tank fuel pump....

If I can't buy what I want by the time I'm ready, I'll take a new tank to our local gas tank builder for modification....

Ok, I was considering just getting a threaded connector with a barb and just hooking up the fuel line and business as usual from there.. I just wasn't sure if there was some info I wasn't privy to regarding the fuel line and how it normally hooks up. Thank you for the response!

Great tip! I may grab one of those just to have a spare for the future. I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought the one off ebay. I figure a $2 brass fitting to fuel barb and I'll be in business. After giving it a good electrolysis bath and cleaning it up, my current sending unit is pretty pitted, so there's no telling how long it was gonna last. The I needed a new sock and O-ring anyway, so by the time I paid for shipping, the sending unit as well as the extra pieces, I'd probably be just as well to cough up the $60 for the new one. It's really not that bad of a price, to be honest Very Happy
