Oil Pan questions Empty Oil Pan questions

Post by equium Sat Oct 27, 2012 4:03 pm

so I'm in my garage staring at the slant 6 i just pulled out, along side the rebuilt slant 6 ready to go in. The 6 going in is from a 70's barracuda, so i'm told. The 6 that came out does not appear to be the original as it has the head with smog attachment and no plug tubes. Anyway, I noticed the oil pan of of the new motor is deeper in the rear part. From the top of the pan to the bottom, it's about 5.5 inches. On the old motor, it's about 4 inches.
Has anyone had ANY issues dropping in a slant 6 with regards to the oil pan?
    thanks everyone

I'd go with the new pan. It's deeper, so either the oil is further from the spinning crank or the oil capacity is more.
It's not like there are any crossmembers or other issues with running a deeper pan.

thanks for the response. i agree, i have a lot of clearance so i'm keeping the lager pan. I don't want to go through all the trouble with the oil pickup and such.
@Dix: the old motor had a rod through the block. the guy I bought it from received the van from his grandfather, but he didn't take very good care of it and did not keep the oil filled. It sat for 20 years used as storage. I found it on craigslist with the ad saying: 500 bucks or it's going to scrap.
