looking for 230 mount pics
LOOKING TO HELP DO MY 4 CYLINDER TO 230 SIX CYLINDER SWAP THIS SAT. I NEVER GOT TO TALK W/ ANYONE WHO HAS SAW A STOCK ORIG. FOUR CYLINDER ,TO GET FOR SURE INFO NEEDED. I WONT HAVE A LOT OF TIME , HOPEFULLY HAVE IT SWAPPED IN 2 DAYS . WHAT I/M LOOKING TO STAY AWAY FROM IS FINDING OUT THE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE .I/VE BEEN TOLD IT SHOULD BE SAME MOUNTS . EVEN AUTOZONE SAID THEIR COMPUTER SHOWS THE 4 CYL. AND THE 230 SIX ARE INTERCHANGEABLE. NOT BEING A MECH , AND MY FRIEND WHO IS , IS NOT SURE OF THE OTHER PART OF THE MOTOR MOUNT . I/M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE FLAT MOTOR MOUNT PIECE , BUT THE PARTS THAT MOUNT TO MOTOR , AND THE OTHER SIDE THAT IS(RIVOTED/BOLTED?)TO CROSSMEMBER . CAN ANYONE SHOW ME PICS OF A EMPTY MOTOR BAY TO REFERENCE WHERE A 230 MOUNTS ARE AT AND THEIR SHAPE , ALL PIECES FROM MOTOR BLOCK TO CROSSMEMBER . OR A PIC OF EVERYTHING NEEDED TO ATTACHE A 230 TO CROSSMEMBER ITSELF ? THANKS

The whole system is a crossmember with all the pieces riveted on it,,,,2 rubber motor mounts which are the same then a left engine motor mount bracket and a right one,,,,so it's 5 pieces,,,,,,I will get you better pictures in a while,,,,,,,

THANKS GOV.
ok , now i/m thinking the brackets look kind of similar . i was weirded out that when attempting to see mine they looked like a different design from ea. other . i will try to get a better look tomorrow . but on the xmember , but the parts that strut out from it look like they do at a angle ,(front-to-back , or the oposite ,i/ll check that out tomoroow also )
again , thanks for the help , i/ll try to see tomorrow if i think i still need brackets and/or even a xmember ,if anyone has available .

I GUESS I/M JUST OVER THINKING THIS SWAP . IT SHOULD BE THE SAME PARTS , AND JUST SHOVE RAD. UP ALL WAY TO FRONT OF BOX .
IT DID BLOW ME AWAY WHEN I HAD A THOUGHT YESTERDAY , DUDE JUST GO PARK NEXT TO ANOTHER 1ST GEN ,AND COMPARE , IT WILL PROBALY HAVE A 6 IN IT , RUNNING OR NOT .BUT IT DIDNT TAKE ME 5 MINUTES TO REALIZE AS MUCH AS I/VE BEEN AROUND THIS CITY , EVEN AT WORK AS A GARBAGE MAN ,GOING ALL OVER AND THRU THE ALLEYS ,SEEING ALL STUFF PARKED UP IN THE BACK YARDS , THEN IT HIT ME , THEY ARE NOT HERE AT ALL IN LOUISVILLE . I GUESS MY HEAD WAS STILL THINKING WHEN I HAD THE LAST EARLY AND GO HIT THE LOCAL JUNK YARD, WRONG , (ALL THAT HEAVY METAL DONE SCRAPED)
AGAIN , I DO APPRECIATE EVERYONE ON HERE , WITH THEIR EXPERENCE , AND THE PEOPLE THAT KEEP THESE PAGES RUNNING , MODERATORS , GOV, ETC.,

THANKS AGAIN FOR LL THE REPLIES
MY FRIEND THAT WAS GOING TO SWAP OUT THE 153 FOR THE 230 I BOUGHT (AND HAD HIM TO PLACE OIL & WATER PUMPS REAR AND FRONT OIL SEALS) ,WELL WE/VE DECIDED AS STOCK AS THIS VAN IS EXCEPT PAINT AND REPLACED CRANK OUT CAMPER SLAT WINDOWS , THAT IT IS A RARE ENOUGH LITTLE PIECE TO GO FOR THE REBUILD ON THE 153 . SO WE/RE NOT SWAPPING AFTER ALL .
BUT IF ANYBODY IS INTERESTED IN THIS 230 I BOUGHT OUT OF A RUNNING 63 IMPALA SS IN THE LOU. KY AREA GIMMIE A HOLLER , PROBALY AROUND 225.00
DANNY 502 432 3684 , HEY NIGHTMOVES , IF YA COME UP FOR THE SEATS THINK ABOUT SNATCHING UP THIS MOTOR WHILE YOUR HERE !

I think your "caps lock' is stuck on...
does it even have enough power to go up a hill with the 153? You could do the 230 swap and just save the 'numbers matching' 153 block for posterity... As slow as my van is with a 230, I can't imagine how gutless a 153 4 cyl must be.
$225 for a good running 230 is a good deal.

Re: looking for 230 mount pics
230 is rated at 140 hp by comparison... That's 55% more Horsepower!
I'd say that's worth doing the swap!
Torque output:
153: 152 ft-lbs. @ 2400 rpm
230: 220 ft-lbs. @ 1600 rpm
Thats 45% more torque.
On the flip side, I can see your reasoning wanting to keep it. They only installed the 153 one year only. 1964. That makes it kind of a cool oddity. I say if you keep the 4 cyl, rebuild it with forged pistons and then install a turbo!

Re: looking for 230 mount pics
I would keep the original engine. If a 50 hourse power VW engine will power a big ole VW Kombi Van I think the 90 Hp Chevy engine will be ok. I am not into hot rodding anymore. I am into the cheapest way to go & if it takes me a little longer to get to where I am going I'm ok with it.
