Cool Only rust I've run into so far is minor surface rust. I'm just mainly trying to knock off the surface stuff and get it covered until I can do the paint and body proper. Sending the head off to a pro while I get the block rebuilt. Once she's running perfectly I'll start on the pretty.

Here's what I found today. One broken ring and a little knick on the piston. Cyl. wall still looks good. Time for a bath for the block and a little honing.

crank is looking good. Gotta get the main pulley off the crank and get the block to the bath and the head to the machine shop. Sorry, I like pictures. Cool I'm going to need the part donivan65 posted in a pic on page one of the arm for the window roller. I'd like to find the entire mechanism. Any ideas where I might find one? Inside the housing where the shaft goes in the mech. is floppy and not grabbing gears. Looks like its shot.

Well,,,,,I would have to say most of the drivers door window regulators in the world are worn out,,,,a 1st Gen, 1964-66 is the same except it takes a different type of handle on it,,,,,,and how much of a repair person are you? How about drill out those 3 rivets holding the handle shaft cover on and see what the problem is,,,,are teeth broken,,,,can you rivet or weld a flat washer on the cap to tighten up the shaft?

seems like all I do is repair. I was going to drill out the rivets and see what's going on. I may be able to repair it. Feels like the gear in there (or whatever's in there) is floating around. Maybe I can Tighten it all up. Worth a shot.

Another thing you could do is drill and tap a hole in the backside of the shaft and put a screw with washers on it to hold the shaft centered and create a drag on it to keep the glass from sinking down by itself,,,,,

I found the culprit. I still think the shaft and gear need a little tightening with a washer or something like you said but here's the teeth I found taking it out of the door. Mad

Welcome to the forum! Lots of good info and good folks here.

Glad to hear you're keeping the van going! It's got a lot of history. And you are making great progress, getting right on it!

I've got a spare regulator for your drivers door but it's a 1st Gen, so you'd need to swap shafts or window cranks. I'm switching to power windows so I won't be needing it.

Send me a private message if you're interested.

I've been meaning to ask you guys if you've heard of Redline Master Overhaul kits. I'm shopping around and was wondering how good these kits are, or bad. Here's what I'm doing until I can afford the kit.
Don't have a sandblaster here at home and I'm on vacation so I'm not going to the shop so I put a grinder and a wire wheel to good use today.
