I disconnected the terminals on my battery & charged it to a full charge then connected the negative followed by the positive terminal and upon connecting the positive terminal it I found that I did have a drain. I pulled each fuse out 1 at a time and eventually found that the culprit was my stereo system. I am going to check it out this evening and hope that all goes well.

All modern stereos will have a small permanent drain on them. They require a permanent live to keep data stored such as preset radio stations and clocks etc. This may be showing as a drain on the battery, but it may only be a very small one. You may need to measure the amount of current that the radio is drawing, as it may only be very small, and may not be causing you problems....

Well I checked it out after it sitting overnight and it cranked right up. Had to be the radio I guess. I checked the voltage with a tester and it is reading 12 volts not running & about 14 Volts running.

Some of those radios have amplifiers that may not be turning off with the key,,,,,and those digital radios are always on to remember the time and presets,,,,,but whatever the case, you need to check for drains if the battery goes dead on you,,,,,,,

The holidays have had me out of town the last 2 weekends away from the van so I havnt had much time to investigate my problems.

I see there are others having similar issues so I know im not the only one with these gremlins.

    Finally some good news.

Today I started the van and really gave is some good revs to get the alt really going. The one wire alternator is really a one wire. Charged to 14.75 volts with just the battery hookup only. I disconnected the idiot light and no longer have any signs of the drain. Going to install a proper volt gauge later on.

Well done mate, now get that Voltmeter fitted, they are one of the best gauges you can have. Vital information in an old vehicle....
