is there a column shifter bushing? Empty is there a column shifter bushing?

Post by Magic Bus Wed Aug 25, 2010 5:51 pm

My shifter has a lot of play in the Magic Bus...3 speed manual... My 61 truck is much tighter. Before I disasemble it is there a bushing I can order? I looked in Macs catalogue and there was nothing listed.. Id appreciate any help.. ideas ..schematics? Im assuming that it is loose down near the steering box where the shift linkage hooks up. It appears that the connections where the rods hook to the column have bushings/washers and are tight enough...same goes for where it attathches to the transmission.

    Thanks...

I was looking into this very thing today. Mine are really shot at the tranny.
I saw this on Mac's but I'm not sure what "kit" includes, if they are priced separately
it would make replacing all four kinda pricey. Heres the link

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help us out because I would lie to tighten up mine as well.

There is a guy on the Yahoo group Oldeconolines named Vic that rebuilds the columns. He does great work. Adds a bushing in the lower part of the tube to tighten things up. Reasonalble prices considering the amount of work done. Something you may want to consider.

Just found this thread here too.https://vintage-vans.forumotion.com/e-van-general-discussion-f5/shifter-lever-bushings-t11453.htm
Curious to see which ones work better. Here is a link to the falcon ones.

No, I've never done any business with Vic. My column shift is working just fine. I just think it's a pretty good deal for the price. From what I've seen Vic does some high quality work. He helps a lot of people out on the Yahoo groups.
