SNAFU Dipstick Blues Empty SNAFU Dipstick Blues

Post by Digz Tue Dec 29, 2009 1:13 pm

I was running plug wires today, The dipstick tube was a little in the way of one of the loom brackets. So brilliant me decided to try to tweak the dipstick a little bit. There was the silent but sickening feeling of "no resistance" after what I thought was a very gentle bit of persuasion. Crying or Very sad So does anyone know of a good way to get the remainder of the tube out of the block? I am asking this before I try something that may not work anyway, In my initial attempt I have already turned what was left of the tube into a gob of folded metal about flush with the top of the hole. One thing in my favor at this point is with no doghouse it is staring me in the face. Just trying to avoid dropping the pan (last resort).

ive used a tap to get one out, real gently screw it in just far enough to grab hold and work it out. have also had to use two flat blade screw drivers crossed to turn tube and work it out. good luck

Big wood or sheet metal screw should be able to grab it enough to pull the broken part out,,,maybe putting vice grips on the bolt and hitting it up from underneath with a long punch,,,,,,I guess it aint going to hurt to just punch it down lower into the hole or even into the pan enough to let the new tube fit in,,,,,,

Like I said I had it mangled already, think I would have tried the tap if I hadn't.

It took some persuasion to get it to move, used a BFH on the wrench to give it some help

There is a bottom lip to the hole that would prevent driving it thru, either the stick guide tube thats on the bottom or cast ,Im not sure

However,,,,,,,it sure would of been more entertaining for us if you would of wrapped a chain around the roof and used a come along to pull out that broken piece,,,,,,,

The tools: 7/16s end wrench to slip over the tube to drive against, piece of 1/2" conduit to use as a driver (bent to slip over curve of dipstik tube) and a Band-aid for when ya slice your finger open handling the conduit.
