Re: Lowering a 67
i don't know who's van it is but it's sweet
found these on the net
"It started life as a school bus for Fresno. Ca. as far as i know I am the 3rd owner. I have gutted it. Added Toyota MR2 seats up front, an a Nissan quest bench seat in the back. all the tracks fo the seats are functioning. I built custom lowering brackets for the front straight axle as there are no dropped axles for these unlees you can find someone who can custom make one. It will be gettin an air bag set up in the front as well in the back."

That post was back in 2009 ... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2538713/1969-chevrolet-van
The "Slayer / Balls Deep" van above by Fu Manchu is a much more recent build. He's a fabricator out of Mesa, AZ. and that van is constantly being modified in one way or another.
As far as a lowered front end goes, buying a dropped axle off the shelf isn't going to happen. However all straight axle front ends are basically the same and hot rodders have been "lowering" them forever. The process isn't for the faint hearted. I wouldn't recommend you giving it a try without having a few "practice axles" & a lot of know how. I know a lot of very talented fabricators that won't touch an I-beam axle.
The only guy I know dropping Chevy axles is Sid ( http://droppedaxles.com ) ... He's who I'm going to have do mine but I'm waiting until I have a spare, just in case. Until then I'm going to make blocks & put the axle on top of the springs & do a mild frame notch. I'm guessing that overcoming the bump steer will be a big hurdle.
That's just the front. The rear will pose its own obstacles if you want to maintain any semblance of a decent ride.
As far as rims & tires I haven't a clue ... BUT
Donivan65 has a fine example of rims & tires in the photo gallery & I'm gonna follow his lead.

Re: Lowering a 67
Yeah. Thanks for all the info! I know we found that site before, but were still looking for someone to do our axle for us. We have a full shop and everything down here in new orleans, and we'll be able to do the work, we have before, just not on a van. The thing us we dont want to cut anything. So were taking it as low as possible with no cutting and best ride we can get. Hopefully that works out. abd also, we want to try to fit 18"s in the front, 20s on the back. We'll see how that goes.

Re: Lowering a 67
There is a place that does dropped axles and has a great rep. It's called Sid's dropped axle. Great guy to talk to he's in Oklahoma does all sorts of rod work and can do up drop your axle and narrow it or widen it,been doing it for years last I knew he even had a 2nd gen axle at his shop.
