A108 Side Door locking mechanism trouble

Self inflicted wound here. I just acquired a 1968 A108 Window van that Im working through the issues. Today I popped out the side cargo door lock cylinder so the locksmith could determine the key. Got that handled alright but now, the door latch mechanism does not deploy in the handle down position. I cannot determine what happened or if somehow I damaged the rods. No matter what position the handle is in, the top and bottom latches do not emerge. I cannot figure out (maybe it's the Houston heat). what I disconnected that caused my problem. All works fine before. Does anyone have diagrams to refer to? Is there anyone close by that has one I can look at?

Do you have the rods switched or on the right connector?

On an early Chevy van, I would Guess the door got locked with door handle in open position??

Thanks for your comments. I figured out how the linkages go to gather but do not have the original retainer clips. I'm using something that works for now but it's easily dislodged. Circle clips fit into the rod channel but have no other ways to stay in place if stressed. Any ideas of where to find the clips that are the original style. I am holding it together with some generic Side-Mount External Retain rings but the do pop off. If anyone has a picture of a working side door linkage, that may help me find something that will work.

Thanks Dix for posting the article. I actually stumbled on to it earlier. But it didn't seem to help me so much. I saw the pictures when I found the article but do not find pictures in your post.

No matter, If I can find a way to post a picture you will see the connection and its two slotted connections without a retainer.

Yes I did search using a magnet. Nothing found.

I guess the linkage is okay but the retainers are not existent.

Ill Call Steve Scott to see what he has.

Thanks for the diagram. it's not the side door mechanism but I may have the issue solved. I have a couple of retainer clips being sent by Scott. Hopefully they will last at least half as long as the originals.
