Shorter Brake Pedal? Empty Shorter Brake Pedal?

Post by AzDon Sun Aug 08, 2021 11:51 am

Why did GM put the brake pedal in these vans so high up from the floor when the travel for fully bled and adjusted brakes is only about 2 inches?......
My daily drivers have the brake pedal less than two inches up from the throttle pedal and I like it that way and can't think of a good reason why I couldn't cut three inches out of the pedal travel.....
I'm a madman with a cutting wheel and mig welder and I'm itching to go!.....
If anybody has a good reason I shouldn't do this, let me know!

Replying to my own thread?..... Kinda pathetic!

Nobody shared a good reason why 5 inches of pedal travel would not work as good as 8 inches......That's 1.5 inches for stopping and 3.5 inches in reserve.....
It's a little easier to see in the second pic by comparing height with the clutch pedal, which, BTW, has been re-purposed as the e-brake...

Looks like you didnt do much better here either,, People surely got more important things in life to do than coming to this website,,,,,,most people are interested in repairing their vehicles, not reinventing them,,,,,that brake pedal is TOO close to the gas pedal,,,easy to slip off or hit the gas pedal and cause a problem if you are running a V8 and auto trans.......

Actually the new throttle is moved substantially to the right of where it was.... I also re-welded the pedal pad about two inches right to space it away from the steering column some... My seat is going to be directly centered on the steering column (moved right)
The engine is moved back 18" to allow this.....

I had a front wheel cylinder that (all of a sudden) started to leak profusely from the piston. I wanted to be able to feel every fraction of an inch of travel while limping home. I carry brake brake fluid with me. I knew when to pull over and refill.....saved my bacon. I guess I'm saying that I knew where the established factory limit was.

.... this also falls into my "our vans have no front clip" mentality
