Does anyone know the trick to remove the the brake pushrod that actuates the master cylinder? The one on my 1967 108 sportvan is bent (No clue how that happened). Also, does anyone know where I can get a replacement? I would rather replace than straighten the old one out. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: 1967 108 brake pushrod removal
The bolt through the pedal has a "shoulder" that the eye in that rod can rotate freely on..... Once you remove that bolt, the rod can be freely pulled out of the master cylinder.....The rod likely got bent because the eye is rusted or otherwise fused to that bolt....You can make a new rod from a long grade 8 bolt and a heim end, which won't need a shouldered bolt..... I believe the sizing for the heim and bolts is 5/16"...

Re: 1967 108 brake pushrod removal
AzDon, I appreciate the reply and info. The pushrod was rusted to the bolt with the shoulder which explains the bending. I am having an issue with removing the shoulder bolt. I pulled the cotter pin and tried to pull it out but the bolt is getting blocked by the metal housing surrounding it, like its too long. Since there is a cotter pin I figured that it should slide right out, but that is not the case. Seems like I am on the right path but am missing something simple.

The rod will drop out of the master if you remove it, but I can't visualize that being helpful...
It may be that the only way to remove the bolt is to remove the pedal arm and work it in a vice....

That is the setup I have. Thank you for the pictures. It helps out a lot. I'll try removing the pedal arm this weekend, and see how far I get.

Doni-
I'm totally amazed that you've saved pics of stuff like this! So Cool!
Looks like the pushrod is balled up in your second pic, Doni!
If he's rusted that bad around that cam-shaped bolt, I'm fearing that getting the pivot axle out is not going to be fun, but I think he will have to remove that arm and take it to a bench vise to work it....
A heim joint can replace the loop end of that pushrod and matching cam bolt and the rod can be a long 5/16 bolt with the head cut off and the end ground spherical.....

Re: 1967 108 brake pushrod removal
Could be someone put a normal bolt in the rod and tightened it too hard and it locked it up or maybe the master cylinder piston froze up and the rod bent when someone pushed really hard down on the pedal,,,,,the pedal might need a puller to release it out of the arm and that arm aint going anywhere unless that pedal is removed,,,,,,,,,,but lets see what he finds and we will go from there.......

Yes..... I had to use a puller to free the pedals and they didn't give up easily....

Re: 1967 108 brake pushrod removal
Hey folks, I apologize for the late update but there was success. The cam bolt was seized to the push rod. I was able to break it free by using a socket and breaker bar before I dissembled too much of the arm assembly. As far as the break pedal goes, I was able to break the bolt holding it to the arm free with a breaker bar as well. The brake pedal didn't give me too much grief. I was able to straighten the bent pushrod and reinstall after cleaning everything and lubing all moving parts. So far so good. Still need to bleed the brakes but that's straight forward. I appreciate every ones help. Thanks
