Electric radiator fan Empty Electric radiator fan

Post by Vangoat Mon Jul 29, 2019 7:39 am

Hi everyone. I purchased a Monster electric cooling fan one year and three months ago for my 1961 econoline with a 200 IL6 with a three core Champion radiator. Fair weather and weekend driver, not a daily driver. Worked great untill now. On my way to the Nationals in Mass. this past week from eastern Pa. I just crossed the border into New York, two hours into the trip the fan seized up and engine overheated. Had to get towed home.
I thought Monster cooling fans were a reliable product, unless mine was a fluke. Does anyone have any bad or good experiences with this fan or any recomendations on which brand to use.
My fan is the Chiller Elite series, 16", 160W, 2500+CFMs, part # 6065LD-16 CHPERL,
one year warranty. The thickness is 2 3/4" which just barely fits after shimming it out about an 1". Any thoughts? Thanks !!

I can't comment on Monster brand but....I've been running a Flex-a-Lite 160 as a puller for 7yrs. (no mechanical fan/250 ci. straight six). It has performed flawlessly and they sell replacement motors. I had better order one (a motor) in-case I just put the whammy on myself. Too bad about not making the NATS but glad (hope) you got home OK

Thank you, I messaged the seller but apparently theres no leeway 3 months past the warranty expiration. Bummer !!! I converted back stock fan for now. At least I know two belts will have to break before I loose my cooling ability.

I also no nothing of monster fans.

Over the years I have also ran Flex-A-Lite, Be cool, and Spal fans on various vehicles. I have not had any of them die even after many years of service. I also hear Derale are good but I have not had any personal experience with them.

Defiantly stick with a good name brand that is made in the USA if possible.

If possible also fabricate a fan shroud to pull the most air through the radiator. Also don't use those plastic through the radiator zip strips to mount the fan, buy or fabricate some fan mounts that hook to the radiator.

    That's my two cents worth.
