Brake Fluid Question Empty Brake Fluid Question

Post by SpringTime Fri Mar 15, 2019 8:39 pm

I find a lot of synthetic blend Brake Fluid on the market now. What would you suggest to use if staying stock with no conversion? What would equal Rontunda's R-103-A on todays market?
    Appreciate the input!

Okay, I will pass on the synthetics and use the DOT 3. It has been awhile since I have any Econolines and just started back into it. I appreciate the reply!

DOT 5 is silicone based and works best "IF" you replace everything, replace master cylinder, wheel cylinders, flush lines really well etc. It does not corrode the metal and will make your system last longer. It is the most expensive fluid and isn't available everywhere.
I still use DOT 3 in my van because of availability.
If I were going to replace the parts again I will probably use the DOT 5 next time.
On a side note, Harley Davidson did a recall of all the Motorcycle's using DOT 4 because they found moisture was contaminating the brake systems, They switched to DOT 5.

From what I understand, the problem with dot 5 is b/c it can't absorb water any moisture that finds its way in pools in places b/c the fluid won't combine with it.

DOT 3 is sufficient. Been using it on my van also.
