New Fuel Tank Empty New Fuel Tank

Post by Marq Sun Jun 17, 2018 5:15 am

Couple posts discussed the replacement tank now available on eBay.

My tank was pretty clean till I got it sand blasted and found an area on the bottom that was paper thin and had a couple of pin holes.  I can TIG but not sure I'm up to gas take level.

Considered sealing the tank but lots of horror stories and I simply did not want to do this again so I just ordered it.

Here are some side by side photos, appears to be well made and an exact shape.New Fuel Tank 20180610

I just slapped one in my 63. I was very impressed. A little pricy but very nice and instillation was a breeze.

Nice to know that. How's the thickness of the material?

Sweet info here, thanks! We're looking at a '70 Econoline with a couple of issues including the fuel tank might need to be replaced according to the current owner. Glad to found this community.

I see you attached a ground wire. If you have rust, paint, undercoating, etc. between the tank and the straps, your fuel gauge will not work.

Drill a small hole in the flange at one corner of the tank and using a sheet metal screw, attach a wire to the frame.

If anyone wants larger capacity I modify 76 Econo tanks to go on the early model. This gets you to a 22 gallon capacity. Modified tank with straps and a new sender is $350. I've done 4 of these. First was a mustang 16 gallon in a 61 and the last 3 have been 76 econo tanks. I run one in my 67 supervan, my shop shop helper has one in his 63 shorty and we installed one in a customers 64 8 door.

Vanny Thank you! We love our econo's and all of the early models for that matter. We're just trying to help people fill in the missing pieces of their puzzle while keep ourselves mentally stimulated and challenged at the same time. It's made for a tough living but we are too deep now to give up. Thanks for your support!

I was wondering how the Mustang Tank fit is with the cast weight above it? Is it any deeper, how does the larger capacity work? Height, width, or length? Looks good!
