2nd generation 10 bolt 8.2 rear differential....

Trying to find stock measurements and parts for my 10 bolt 8.2 rear differential. I have to completely rebuild the rear diff. My axles are 31 3/8 inches long with 28 spines and 2.780 hub/brake pilot. Anybody else have this size axle?....seems to be a rare size.

the early chevy vans came with two rear ends
one being the 8.2 inch 10 bolt and the other
being an 8.5 inch 12 bolt.
most of the 8.2 were the 3.36 to one gear ration
and the 12 bolts were offered in a couple different
ratios, not sure of what they were.
parts for this rear end are still available from your local
parts store, seals and bearings that is but the ring and
pinion are going to be tougher to come up with. the axles will
be tough to find new. if you list the parts you need somebody
here might chime in with what you need

I needed to replace everything in the rear differential.....
I got new axles from Yukon Gear part number YA G1255804-SH
I decided to upgrade to a Posi and got a complete kit from National Drivetrain for my 10 bolt 8.2 rear differential....comes with New limited-slip Posi differential, Ring and Pinion gear set, and Master Bearing installation kit.....hopefully everything will fit.

I got a posi kit from National Drivetrain. It fit nice but I haven't driven my van. I'll let everybody know how it works out.

Sounds like a nice setup. As I wanted my G10 to go down the highway without screaming at me or overheating, I got lucky and found a nice NOS 308 gear-set. I had a local shop rebuild the rear (for too much money) yet they did a superb job and she;'s really the quiet. Anyway, good on the highway yet first gear is really long, so a little irritating in town--especially not being synchroed. Have a nice 3psid syncro in reserve. Just wanted to mention the 308 if anybody is thinking that way. The Posi is a good idea too. Wish I had done that as well. Happy motoring, Mark
