    Torque Problems Empty Torque Problems

Post by flyintiger Wed Nov 09, 2016 9:13 am

So, I was reinstalling my carburetor (holley 1920 on a 225 six) and my original '67 A100 manual has a torque spec for the carb to manifold of 30ft lbs.

Started torquing the bolt, and before getting very tight the mounting ear snapped off.

Just looking for confirmation that the torque should be 30ft lbs and that maybe the carb body had a hairline crack or my torque wrench is inacurate...

New carb should be here next week for install, and I don't want to run into the same problem again.

I think you misread the specs.....must be inches-lbs not foot-lbs....for example, cylinder head cover bolt is 40 (in.-lbs.)

Since it was the ear of the carb and not the stud/bolt then it was not the fastener or torque value, there are few choices, the base of the carb is not flat, the ear was already cracked, the manifold where the carb seats is not flat, too many gaskets or too thick or if you used a heat spacer it was warped or too soft.
