Thinking of making an aluminum heatshield to sandwich between the carb and manifold on my 250 to block some of the radiant heat from the exhaust manifold...not seeing this being done, is it a good idea or waste of time?

I had the same idea for my Epup. I've seen it done on drag cars. I think it should work in theory. Anxious to hear from people who have tried it or understand why it won't help.

I have seen people do it on fordsix forums. I don't have any direct experience, but it seems like it might help. If you had a phenolic spacer between the carb and the heatsheild/manifold it would isolate the carb from the shield being directly connected to it.

I was thinking of using an insulated carb spacer, they make them for Chevy one barrels, to reduce heat transfer but was always afraid to try and back out the old studs without breaking them since you need longer studs.  Left well enough alone, but has any one tried this? Wouldn't this work better than a heat shield? or even better combined with one?

im still using the 1/4" or so thick cardboard gasket in between the carb and heat shield..its just seeing that exhaust manifold right there...it seems pretty dumb to me to have the exhaust and intake all wrapped up next to each other
