727 is an automatic, the picture he is showing is the top plate to a 745 3 speed manual transmission.
During the era of our vans there was a 903 which is a non sync 1st gear three speed manual used with six and small V8's, the 745 is a 3 speed manual, basically a heavy duty version of the 903 that was used for six cylinder through big blocks, last but not least is the 833, it is the four speed, it went on everything from six cylinders through the big blocks. The only other automatic was the 904.
