Just install one up by the carb for it to retract, it doesn't need a lot of smash behind it for it to do it's job.

The kick down linkage does more than just kick down. It actually controls the transmission's throttle pressure  . Driving without the throttle pressure being controlled ..can damage the transmission...not good Sad Lokar makes a fancy universal kick down cable for mopars Smile

I've got over 11 years on this without one so far! LOL
I have it wired open about halfway...
Seems to work okay - except if I want a passing gear - I gotta grab it!!!
Shifting into 2nd at 45 or so and punching it is a kick in the pants!!!
I shift up someplace in the 65mph range and punch it some more!!!
If I could afford a lokar I would have gotten one awhile ago. Just that life has kept my budget a little slim!

    lol

I understand the budget thing. If it working leave it alone. And Lokar is not cheap. Wire is more affordable.

By wiring the lever halfway it seems to pressurize and work just fine on my unit. I had it completely rebuilt and had a shift kit put in it. Some day I will come across a shift lever and get it installed and hopefully it will work then - but until then I will keep it the way it is. Hopefully this will give you an idea of what you can try. good luck with yours...
